In this paper, the correlation of reflection loss measured by an ultrasonic shear wave reflection method and the microstructure in cement-based material is investigated. Three cement pastes (Portland cement type I) with different water-cement ratios (0.35, 0.50 and 0.60) cured at 25 °C were examined. The ultrasonic shear wave reflection factor (WRF) was measured by the wave reflection technique...
We briefly review the state-of-the-art in phase-field modeling of microstructure evolution. The focus is placed on recent applications simulations solid-state evolution and solidification that have been compared and/or validated with experiments. They show potential to make quantitative predictions link between processing microstructure. Finally, some current challenges extending application mo...
Urchin-like NiCo2S4 sub-micron spheres integrated with nano-sized and micro-sized structures, which were synthesized via a facile one-pot method, deliver efficient electrocatalytic activities for oxygen reduction and evolution reactions. The excellent electrocatalytic property of NiCo2S4 sub-micron spheres is originated from their unique urchin-like microstructure, composition and d-electronic ...
Mctastable systems pose significant problems in both analysis and simulation. We discuss here the evolution of microstructure in a shape-memory alloy where energetic contributions from disparate scales play determining roles. This is a challenge for modelling since the finest length scales cannot be 'seen* at macroscopic level. We then provide a mechanism for kinetics that gives a different not...
We use the energetic formulation for rate–independent inelasticity which is based in the dissipation distance on the internal state. From this the incremental problems inherit a variational form which can be used to derive suitable relaxations. As a result we obtain a similar energetic formulation on the set of Young measures which then describes the evolution of microstructure.
The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the application of Cloisite 30B organoclay (C30B) on the rheological, structural, electrical, and thermal characteristics of poly (methyl methacrylate)/multiwalled carbon nanotubes nanocomposites (PMMA/MWCNTs) fabricated by the simultaneous melt mixing. The microstructure and the state of nanofllers dispersion wereassessed by melt line...
Compound casting refers to a process that used to produce bimetals. This study investigates the interface of Mo40/C93200 that is produced by compound casting process. In this research, molten bronze is poured around steel core, interaction between liquid and solid creates a diffusion zone and followed by a transition layer which leads to the creation of diffused region between the interfaces of...
Compositions of Al2O3+Si, SiO2+Al and Al+Si systems were prepared to study the effect of reaction bonding process on the mullite formation. The composition of each system was adopted according to mullite stoichiometery and sintered in 700-1600°C range. Results showed that the formation of reaction bonded mullite starting from Al2O3+Si mixtures, proceeded in two partially overlapping steps, the ...
Introduction Modern materials science is based on the fundamental experience that the properties of materials are not unalterably determined by their average chemical composition but they are to a large extent influenced by their microstructure. This applies particularly for their mechanical and electromagnetic properties. Thus, modern "materials research" is often used as a synonym for "micros...
In Part I of this paper, we presented a general homogenization framework for determining the overall behavior, the evolution of the underlying microstructure, and the possible onset of macroscopic instabilities in fiber-reinforced elastomers subjected to finite deformations. In this work, we make use of this framework to generate specific results for general plane-strain loading of elastomers r...
