In this study, potential benefits of early memory testing were examined in terms of "inoculating" eyewitness memory against forgetting. As predicted by fuzzy trace theory (e.g., Reyna & Titcomb, 1997), a larger testing advantage in the delayed recall of event details was expected after immediate testing than after delayed testing because of the decline in accessibility of verbatim traces over t...
Related Work in Text Similarity Recognition: Existing text similarity detection systems recognize verbatim similarities between documents but do not pay attention to similarity in expression. SCAM [4, 5], developed in the Stanford Digital Library looks for verbatim copies of text documents by fingerprinting documents and checking these fingerprints against a repository of previously known finge...
Texture synthesis through so-called ‘smart copying’ requires a seamless meshing of texture subparts. Current systems first select subparts that seem to globally fit well and then optimise the cut between them on a rather local scale. This order of first selecting patches and then caring about the seamless meshing reduces one’s leeway in the choice of seamless cuts to a small zone of overlap bet...
We derive an explicit Hamiltonian for copying the basis up and down states of a quantum two-state system—a qubit—onto n " copy " qubits (n ≥ 1) initially all prepared in the down state. In terms of spin components , for spin-1 2 particle spin states, the resulting Hamiltonian involves n-and (n + 1)-spin interactions. The case n = 1 also corresponds to a quantum-computing controlled-NOT gate.
In this paper we discuss techniques to copy overlapping terms. Starting from the classical Cheney-style copying algorithm, we present several refinements that exploit compact terms where a structure’s last argument overlaps with the following structure. Finally, a two pass algorithm is presented that uses less auxiliary space and that exploits all possible overlaps for finite terms. In spite of...
Study of the history of programming languages reveals a subtle interplay between semantics and implementation. Early languages, designed for maximum eeciency, provided simple abstractions of the underlying hardware. These languages were followed by languages that were \problem oriented" in that they attempted to hide the grosser details of the underlying hardware. Yet confusion between semantic...
This is an overview of the economics of copying and copyright for the Journal of Economic Perspectives.
Garbage collectors must minimize the scarce resources of cache space and off-chip communications bandwidth to optimize performance on modern single-chip computer architectures. Strategies for achieving these goals in the context of copying garbage collection are discussed. A multi-processor mutator/collector system is analyzed. Finally, the Intel 80860XP architecture is studied.
