This report describes a set of 21 polymerase chain reaction primers and amplification conditions developed to barcode practically any teleost fish species according to their mitochondrial cytochrome b and nuclear rhodopsin gene sequences. The method was successfully tested in more than 200 marine fish species comprising the main Actinopterygii family groups. When used in phylogenetic analyses, ...

The detailed information on the chemical and nutritional content is essential for consumers in choosing meat-derived food products. For moslem communities, it is prohibited to consume pork-contained or other pig derivatives foods. Unfortunately, meat adulteration by means of mixing beef and chicken with pork or other pig derivatives frequently occurs in the market. This habits cause difficult i...

The phylogeography of the filed vole (Microtus agrestis) in Eurasia was thoroughly examined using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) cytochrome b (cytb) gene. However, former conclusions about genetic variability and contact zone eastern western lineages Lithuania were based on analysis a very limited number individuals. In present study, we 74 M. agrestis individuals trapped four sites eastern, norther...

Mitochondrial cytochrome b was isolated from the dinoflagellate Pfiesteria piscicida, and the utility of the gene for species identification was examined. One of the primer sets designed was shown to be highly specific for P. piscicida. A time step PCR protocol was used to demonstrate the potential of this primer set for quantification of this species.

Phylogenetical positions of Sorex specimens unassigned to species from Cheju Island, Korea, and S. caecutiens from southern Korean Peninsula were investigated based on full nucleotide sequences (1,140 bp) of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene, comparing specimens of the S. caecutiens/shinto group from locations throughout its * Corresponding author: Tel. +81-11-706-7474, Fax. +81-11-706-7142 E...

The lesser Japanese mole, Mogera imaizumii, recognized by Motokawa and Abe (1996), occurs in eastern Honshu, western Honshu and Shikoku. Mitochondrial and nuclear DNA were analyzed for mole samples from eastern Honshu to elucidate intraspecific differentiation. Analyses of sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene (Cytb) and of a restriction fragment length polymorphism of the nuclear 28...

The antibiotic stigmatellin was purified from the gliding bacterium Stigmatella aurantiaca [1] and its inhibition of the mitochondrial cytochrome bcl-com plex was characterized in detail [2—4]. Stigmatellin was found to affect the mitochondrial cytochrome bc7-complex at the ubiquinol oxidation site (Q nsite), shifting the a-peak of cytochrome b to the red and raising the redox potential of the ...

Respiratory defective mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae assigned to complementation group G28 display a deficiency, in the respiratory chain complex coenzyme QH2-cytochrome c reductase. The mutants define a new nuclear gene, designated CBP3, required for the assembly of the complex. Mutations in CBP3 are expressed in the absence of spectrally and immunologically detectable cytochrome b, a cat...
