We measured motion limits in human cadaveric knees before and after sectioning the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial structures. Sectioning the medial collateral ligament in an anterior cruciate ligament-deficient knee increased the anterior translation limit at 90 degrees of flexion but not at 30 degrees of flexion. The tibia displaced straight anteriorly without exhibiting the coupled...

The method for simulating the second moment of the NMR absorption spectrum as a function of temperature is presented. The second moment is first calculated as a function of the number of jumps of rotating molecules or their parts (like methyl groups). This number of jumps is rescaled into the frequency of internal rotation and these frequencies are recalculated into equivalent temperatures. The...

This paper proposes a robust and effective shape feature, which is based on a set of orthogonal complex moments of images known as Zernike moments. Zernike moment phase is usually not used in image description since it’s sensitive to image rotations. However, phase captures important image information, which is revealed by our numerical analysis of image reconstruction. We therefore propose com...

High level ab initio methods have been used to calculate values of the quadrupole moment of the ground X (1)Sigmag+ state of N2 on a dense radial mesh spanning the interval of 0.8-12.1 a.u. Detailed convergence tests indicate that the resulting equilibrium values of the quadrupole moment Theta(e)=-1.1273 a.u. and its first radial derivative dTheta(R)/dR/e=0.9604 a.u. have absolute uncertainties...

The use of traditional moment invariants is limited to a certain set of simple geometric transforms, such as rotation, scaling and affine transform. This paper presents a novel concept of so-called implicit moment invariants, which enable us to recognize objects under a broader set of geometric deformations.

INTRODUCTION Meniscal injury is a risk factor for the development and progression of knee osteoarthritis, yet little is known about risk factors for meniscal pathology. Joint loading mediated via gait parameters may be associated with meniscal tears, and determining whether such an association exists was the aim of this study. METHODS Three-dimensional Vicon gait analyses were performed on th...

By applying the theory of slowly rotating stars to the Sun, the solar quadrupole and octopole moments J2 and J4 were computed using a solar model obtained from CESAM stellar evolution code (Morel (1997)) combined with a recent model of solar differential rotation deduced from helioseismology (Corbard et al. (2002)). This model takes into account a near-surface radial gradient of rotation which ...

The using possibility of the vortex light beam with topological charges 2 and 5 for the rotation of the micromechanical element (microturbine) was considered. The results of the full-scale experiment on the optical rotation of the special form microturbine were presented. We evaluated the force moment, acting the microturbine.

We use Abstract 3D models for sketch recognition. The models should be abstract because sketches do not contain texture information which is present in the usual 3D models. Zernike moment descriptors are used for recognition. These descriptors do rotation invariant recognition and also provide the angle of rotation. Also the same concept can be extended to 3D viewpoint detection of the sketch.

The mixed method for the biharmonic problem introduced in [12] is extended to the Reissner-Mindlin plate model. The Reissner-Mindlin problem is written as a system of first order equations and all the resulting variables are approximated. However, the hybrid form of the method allows one to eliminate all the variables and have a final system only involving the Lagrange multipliers that approxim...
