A large number of abnormalities is present in the immune system of the patients suffering from scleritis of unknown etiology as well as from scleritis associated with other systemic diseases. The aim of the present work was to investigate the level immune parametars in serum patients ( imminoglobin IgG, IgA, IgM, complement-C3, circulating immune complexes CIC, rheumatoid factor RF, antinuclear...
INTRODUCTION Uveitis specialists and rheumatologists treat patients with anterior scleritis, but data from controlled trials to guide management are scarce, making differences in treatment paradigms possible. METHODS 1044 uveitis specialists and rheumatologists were surveyed regarding therapy for a patient with anterior scleritis. Respondents were asked to select first- and second-choice ther...
From the earliest available descriptions of episcleritis (Slade, 1838; Rognetta, i844; Desmarres, 1847) a confusion has existed between scleritis and episcleritis. This has led to contradictory views on the relative severity and prognosis of these conditions, and the erroneous belief that episcleritis is accompanied by serious complications (Viswalingham, 1936; Wood, 1936; Mann and Markson, I95...
We report an atypical presentation of Toxoplasma retinochoroiditis with associated scleritis in a young and immunocompetent patient. The diagnosis was done on the basis of Polymerase chain reaction of vitreous sample, and the clinical response to specific treatment. This case highlights the unusual presentation of ocular toxoplasmosis as scleritis.
A series of 30 enucleated eyes, all of which had a primary histological diagnosis of scleritis, was analysed. The average age of patients at enucleation was 68 years; many of these patients had had the disease for more than 30 years. In 40 per cent the diagnosis of scleritis was unsuspected and was often masked by multiple complications. Scleritis with uveitis and glaucoma was the most common c...
The purpose of this study was to describe a case of necrobiotic xanthogranuloma scleritis in a 53-year-old male with unilateral progressive visual loss, scleritis, prolonged fever, and multiple mononeuropathy. Scleral biopsy showed necrosis with small abscess, and the pathological tissues revealed submucosal infiltration of mononucleated foamy histiocytes (xanthoma cells), hemosiderin-laden mac...
PURPOSE Scleritis is a rare presentation of herpes zoster ophthalmicus, complicated most commonly by iridocyclitis and raised intraocular pressure. These complications can recur in subsequent years, therefore they should be managed well. CASE REPORT We describe a female patient who developed scleritis, complicated cataract and secondary glaucoma 2 years after being diagnosed by HZO. Secondary...

Observations A 50-year-old lady with recurrent metastatic breast cancer presented with unilateral subconjunctival haemorrhage secondary to severe thrombocytopenia eight days following palli...
fracture line. The therapy for the navicular insufficiency fracture was performed non-operatively. Previously, we had experienced that conservative therapy for insufficiency fractures in patients with RA was an efficient treatment. A non-displaced fracture should be treated with conservative therapy if the patient is unable to be very active. The ethical committee of Hamamatsu University School...
