The exact solutions for stationary and non-stationary neutron transport equations corresponding to various source functions are presented. The semi-infinite medium is considered to have a specular-reflecting boundary with angular dependent externally-incident flux. Some adjustments were made to agree the neutron transport theory with astrophysical applications.

A new pulsed neutron source is under construction at the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF). Neutrons are produced via (p,n) reactions by a low-energy proton beam incident on a thin beryllium target. The source is tightly coupled to a cold methane moderator held at a temperature of 20 K or below. The resulting time-averaged cold neutron flux is expected to be comparable to that of the...

We report the discovery of a new isolated neutron star candidate, RX J0420.0–5022, showing evidence (4σ) for 22.7 s X-ray pulsations in ROSAT data. NTT observations of the field around the soft X-ray source do not reveal any likely optical counterpart brighter than B = 25.25 implying an X-ray to optical flux ratio of > 103.3 and ruling out other possible kinds of X-ray emitters. The X-ray spect...

Introduction Electron linear accelerator (LINAC) can be used for neutron production in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). BNCT is an external radiotherapeutic method for the treatment of some cancers. In this study, Varian 2300 C/D LINAC was simulated as an electron accelerator-based photoneutron source to provide a suitable neutron flux for BNCT. Materials and Methods Photoneutron sources w...

Background: A Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) facility, based on a DT neutron generator, with the final goal to find out a potential, alternative, solution to existing BNCT treatment facilities which are based on nuclear reactors is examined. Materials and Methods: With the aim of the MCNP4B Monte Carlo code different beam-shaping assembly (BSA) configurations were considered. Lead was sel...

The study of the resonant structures in neutron-nucleus cross-sections, and therefore of the compound-nucleus reaction mechanism, requires spectroscopic measurements to determine with high accuracy the energy of the neutron interacting with the material under study. To this purpose, the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF has been operating since 2001 at CERN. Its characteristics, such as the...

Fission chambers were first made fifty years ago for neutron detection. At the moment, the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA-Cadarache) is developing a sub-miniature fission chamber technology with a diameter of 1.5 mm working in the current mode [1]. To be able to measure intense fluxes, it is necessary to adjust the chamber geometry and the gas pressure before testing it under real neutron...

We consider the amplification and transport of a magnetic field in the collapsed core of a massive star, including both the region between the neutrinosphere and the shock, and the central, opaque core. An analytical argument explains why rapid convective overturns persist within a newly formed neutron star for roughly 10 seconds (> 10 overturns), consistent with recent numerical models. A dyna...

Introduction BNCT is an effective method to destroy brain tumoral cells while sparing the healthy tissues. The recommended flux for epithermal neutrons is 10 n/cms, which has the most effectiveness on deep-seated tumors. In this paper, it is indicated that using D-T neutron source and optimizing of Beam Shaping Assembly (BSA) leads to treating brain tumors in a reasonable time where all IAEA re...
