Global limited preemptive real-time scheduling in multiprocessor systems using Fixed Preemption Points (FPP) brings in an additional challenge with respect to the choice of the task to be preempted in order to maximize schedulability. Two principal choices with respect to the preemption approach exist 1) the scheduler waits for the lowest priority job to become preemptible, 2) the scheduler pre...

The problem of real-time scheduling spans a broad spectrum of algorithms from simple uniprocessor to highly sophisticated multiprocessor scheduling algorithms. In this paper, we study the characteristics and constraints of real-time tasks which should be scheduled to be executed. Analysis methods and the concept of optimality criteria, which leads to design appropriate scheduling algorithms, wi...

1 We integrate scan-chain partitioning and preemptive test access mechanism (TAM) scheduling for core-based systems under power constraint. We also outline a flexible power conscious test wrapper to increase the flexibility in the scheduling process by (1) allowing several different bandwidths at cores and (2) controlling the cores test power consumption, which makes it possible to increase the...

When a computer system schedules jobs there is typically a significant cost associated with preempting a job during execution. This cost can be from the expensive task of saving the memory’s state and loading data into and out of memory. It is desirable to schedule jobs non-preemptively to avoid the costs of preemption. There is a need for non-preemptive system schedulers on desktops, servers a...

In this paper a novel modelling and solving method has been developed to address the so-called resource constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) where project tasks have multiple modes and also the preemption of activities are allowed. To solve this NP-hard problem, a new general optimization via simulation (OvS) approach has been developed which is the main contribution of the current re...

In this paper we present a linear time approximation scheme for the non-preemptive job shop scheduling problem when the number of machines and the number of operations per job are xed. We also show how to extend the approximation scheme for the preemptive version of the problem. Let p max = max ij p ij denote the maximum processing time of any operation. Let max = max 1im P j;kjmkj=i p kj be th...

In this paper, we introduce a new concept of semi-preemptive scheduling and we show how it can be used to derive a maximum‡ow based lower bound for the P=rj=Lmax which dominates the well-known preemptive lower bound. We show that, in some cases the proposed bound strictly dominates the preemptive one while having the same complexity.
