Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical images contain different types of land cover information. Moreover, whereas like-polarisation SAR images are predominately influenced by surface backscattering properties, the volume backscattering characteristics of surfaces are well represented by SAR cross-polarisation data. Hence, combined use of likeand cross-polarisation data could enhance the la...

A portable laser radar system was installed at Manora Peak, Nainital (29° 22’ N, 79°27’ E, 1960 m MSL) under a scientific collaborative programme between National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), Gadanki and Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital. The laser radar system provides the extinction of vertical distribution of airborne particles in the atmosp...

A model for sim~ating the measured radar backscattering coefficient of vegetation-covered soil surfaces is presented in this study. The model consists of two parts: the first is a soft surface model to describe the backscattered radar pulses from a rough soil surface, and the second part takes into account the effect of vegetation cover. The soil surface is characterized by two parameters, the ...

Optical interconnection networks is a promising design alternative for future parallel computer systems. Numerous configurations with different degrees of optics, optoelectronics, and electronics have been proposed. In this paper, some of these interconnection networks and technologies are briefly surveyed. Also, a discussion of their suitability in radar signal processing systems is provided, ...

In the four previous parts of this series of articles, level measurement using a floating system, using pressure instruments, using radar waves and using ultrasonic waves were discussed. The instruments offered by Indumart company applicable for each method were also recommended. In the final part of this article, level measurement using capacitance, conductivity probes, vibration forks, therma...

We propose and demonstrate a tunable photonic radio frequency notch filter. The filter has a single delay line architecture and incorporates a new wavelength-selective true-time-delay. The time delay in the feed-forward ioop can be varied by simply changing the optical wavelength resulting in a shift of the null of the filter response. Application in radar systems is discussed.

The aim of this study was to develop an inversion approach to estimate surface soil 19 moisture from X-band SAR data over irrigated grassland areas. This approach simulates a 20 coupling scenario between Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical images through the 21 Water Cloud Model (WCM). A time series of SAR (TerraSAR-X and COSMO-SkyMed) and 22

Integrated antennas have been the focus of increasing research activity, particularly for millimeterwave power combining and“quasi-optical” arrays. This paper reviews some of the work in integrated antennas for oscillator and amplifiers arrays carried out at UCSB. This includes unusual phenomena involving coupled-oscillator systems that have led to novel beam scanning concepts for cost-effectiv...

This report presents the work performed during my Erasmus Master Thesis in the study of the bivariate Pearson system, for the purpose of providing an accurate statistical description of remote sensing images acquired by heterogeneous sensors — specifically, optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images—. This work is based on [1].

IIIDuring the period from June 1958 through September 1965 Lincoln Laboratory engaged in a reentry measurements program that developed radar and optical instrumentation for observing the phenomena associated with the hypervelocity reentry ofpayloads into the earth's atmosphere. This article describes both the Lincoln Laboratory effort and the development and launching of reentry test vehicles b...
