Circuit switching, suited to providing real-time services due to the low and fixed switching delay, is not cost effective for building integrated services networks because is based on static allocation of resources which is not efficient with bursty data traffic. Moreover it cannot handle flow that are not integer multiple of 64 Kb/s, preventing the usage of low bit rate codecs. This work explo...
All-optical Wavelength DivisionMultiplexing (WDM) networks are believed to be a fundamental component in future high speed backbones. However, while wavelength routing made circuit switching in WDM feasible the reality of extant optical technology does not yet provide the necessary devices to achieve individual optical packet switching. This paper proposes to achieve all-optical packet switchin...

In Wireless Sensor Networks providing reliable and efficient communication under fading channels is one of the major technical challenges especially in industrial WSNs (IWSNs) with dynamic and harsh environments. This paper proposes the enhanced reactive routing protocol for wireless sensor networks inherits the advantages of opportunistic routing to provide reliable and energy efficient delive...
This paper addresses control design in networked control system by considering stochastic packet dropouts in the forward path of the control loop. The packet dropouts are modelled by mutually independent stochastic variables satisfying Bernoulli binary distribution. A sliding mode controller is utilized to overcome the adverse influences of stochastic packet dropouts in networked control system...
In this paper, we analyze the performance of a packet-switched broadcast-and-select all-optical network with N nodes and W wavelengths. We model the network as an N N space-division time-slotted packet switch. Each input port has a buuer to store incoming packets until they are switched. In each time slot, a set of W ports is selected to transmit their head-of-line (HOL) packets. We consider th...
This paper proposes reliability improvements to the Cluster Based Routing Protocol (CBRP). Estimation of link reliability to facilitate alternate route redundancy together with the use of adaptive power control is introduced. Network performance is improved in terms of packet delivery ratio, average delay and overheads while at the same time operating at lower transmission power.
Electronic asynchronous packet switching has been developed since the early 1960s and now, at the dawn of the 21 century, it is a well-understood technology. On the other hand, all-optical packet switching, a major candidate for the realization of dynamic optical networking, is a new technology, currently under-going research and development. In this paper we show that the transition from elect...
Time Sliced Optical Burst Switching is a proposed variant of optical burst switching, in which switching is done in the time domain, rather than the wavelength domain. This eliminates the need for wavelength converters, the largest single cost component of systems that switch in the wavelength domain. We examine some of the key design issues for routers that implement time sliced optical packet...
