Introduction Spinal muscles transmit most of the kinematical forces to the spine tissues and therefore, careful modelling of muscle activity is critical for an adequate estimation of spinal loads. However, current lumbar spine numerical models overlook such muscle contribution or suggest simplifications that do not allow thorough studies of load transfers within the deforming spine. As such, th...

In this study, we used a novel technique to study reflex wind-up when the spinal cord is intact and following an acute spinal transection. Specifically, we evaluated reflex responses evoked by a series of 10 electrical pulses to the tibial or superficial peroneal nerves in 9 decerebrate adult cats, before and after an acute spinal transection. Electromyograms were recorded in four hindlimb musc...

Abstract Muscles are stretched with bursts of spikes that come from motor neurons connected to the cerebellum through spinal cord. Then, alpha directly innervate muscles complete command coming upper biological structures. Nevertheless, classical robotic systems usually require complex computational capabilities and relative high-power consumption process their control algorithm, which requires...

Monomelic amyotrophy, also known as Hirayama disease, is a rare lower motor neuron syndrome due to localized loss in the spinal cord at cervical level. Clinically, monomelic amyotrophy defined by insidious onset of unilateral atrophy and weakness involving hand forearm, typically beginning second or third decade life. We report 19-year-old man with two years history slowly progressive his right...

Fetal transplants rescue axial muscle representations in M1 cortex of neonatally transected rats that develop weight support. J. Neurophysiol. 80: 3021-3030, 1998. Intraspinal transplants of fetal spinal tissue partly alleviate motor deficits caused by spinal cord injury. How transplants modify body representation and muscle recruitment by motor cortex is currently largely unknown. We compared ...

Gallbladder perforation with subsequent gallstone spillage can occur with higher frequency in laparoscopic cholecystectomy than in traditional open approach. Gallstone abscess formation from stone spillage post-cholecystectomy is extremely rare. We present a case of para-spinal abscess formation 5 years after spilled gallstones following laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
