The paper deals with identification of Hammerstein and Wiener systems with nonlinearity being a discontinuous piece-wise linear function. Recursive estimation algorithms are given to estimate six unknown parameters contained in the nonlinearity and all coefficients of the linear subsystem. The estimates converge to the corresponding true values with probability one. Numerical examples are given...

In this paper, visual data analysis was applied to raw medical data using probability theory to provide valuable information for preliminary diagnosis. The evolvable hardware design approach combined with information theory was applied to model an adaptive cardiovascular system. The cardiovascular system is modelled by a digital logic circuit based on ECG and ABP signal samples as input and out...

We have developed a general segmentation framework and algorithm that divides images of multi-colored piece-wise uniform dielectric objects into regions corresponding to coherent surfaces by reasoning about the underlying physics rather than color features or statistics. We present our algorithm and demonstrate its relevance to model acquisition and scene analysis.

The aim of this tutorial is to provide insight in the mechanism behind the behaviour of oscillators. A 10MHz negative resistance oscillator is used as an example. A hysteresis phenomena in connection with the negative resistance characteristic is found. By means of piece wise linear modeling and the ”frozen eigenvalues” approach sinusoidal oscillations are investigated.

In this paper we show the Lyapunov stability convergence of an adaptive and decentralized coverage control for a team of nonholonomic mobile sensors. The unicycle model and a nonlinear control law in polar coordinates are used. The mathematical background is verified through some simulation results and experiments using nonholonomic robots sensing a piece-wise continuous light distribution func...

We devise a new formulation for the vertex coloring problem. Different from other formulations, decision variables are associated with the pairs of vertices. Consequently, colors will be distinguishable. Although the objective function is fractional, it can be replaced by a piece-wise linear convex function. Numerical experiments show that our formulation has significantly good performance for ...

We numerically verify that the non-symmetric interior penalty Galerkin method and the Oden-Babus̆ka-Baumann method have sub-optimal convergence properties when measured in the L-norm for odd polynomial approximations. We provide numerical examples that use piece-wise linear and cubic polynomials to approximate a second-order elliptic problem in one and two dimensions.

This paper presents the experimental results of the application of a robust tube-based MPC for tracking of piece-wise constant references to a plant based on the quadruple-tank process. This controller, defined for LTI system subject to additive and bounded disturbances, ensures: (i) the feasibility for any admissible setpoint, (ii) the robust constraint satisfaction, (iii) robust stability and...

We propose a straightforward basin search algorithm to determine suitably large level set of the mean-square Lyapunov-function that corresponds linearization about an path-wise equilibrium solution random ordinary differential equation (RODE). Noise intensity plays crucial role for how similar behavior solutions RODEs is compared corresponding deterministic system. In this regards, also allows ...

We discuss sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of asymptotic expansions for Central Limit Theorem weakly dependent random variables including observations arising from sufficiently chaotic dynamical systems like piece-wise expanding maps, and strongly ergodic Markov chains. primarily use spectral techniques to obtain results.
