The problem of sheath formation in front of a conductive planar plate inserted into the plasma is formulated. Initially, the plate is assumed to be neutral. It is shown that the charging-up process of the plate is accompanied by the excitation of electron plasma waves.

The influence of charge trap states in the dielectric boundary material on capacitively coupled radio frequency plasma discharge is investigated with theory and Particle cell/Monte Carlo Collision simulation. It found that wall manipulated properties mainly through varying ion induced secondary electron emission (SEE) coefficient response to dynamic surface charges accumulated within solid boun...

Dust particles can be a useful plasma diagnostic tool. Sufficiently dust particles can be used as test grains for the visualization of the plasma potential distribution; larger dust particles can be used as specific probes to determine electron temperature. Here we report on diagnostic measurements carried out in a capacitively coupled planar rf discharge. The location of the sheath edge has be...

Langmuir probes used in radiofrequency (rf) discharges usually include compensation elements that minimize the effect of high frequency oscillations in plasma potential. The design of these elements requires knowledge of the capacitance of the sheath on the probe tip, a quantity which varies nonlinearly during the rf cycle. Sheath capacitance has been studied previously for capacitively coupled...

A one-dimensional nanodusty plasma was modeled by self-consistently coupling a plasma model with nanoparticle growth, charging, and transport models. As nanoparticles grow from subnanometer to tens of nm in diameter, the numerical results predict a rich spatiotemporal structure, including four distinct temporal phases: a chargelimited phase, a charge accumulation phase, an early ion drag phase,...

In this paper a model of the quasineutral plasma and the transition between the plasma and the dielectric wall in a Hall thruster channel is developed. The plasma is considered using a two-dimensional hydrodynamic approximation while the sheath in front of the dielectric surface is considered to be one dimensional and collisionless. The dielectric wall effect is taken into account by introducin...

Plasma electron number density and ion number density in a dc multidipole weakly collisional Ar plasma are measured with a single planar Langmuir probe and a double planar probe, respectively. A factor of two discrepancy between the two density measurements is resolved by applying Sheridan's empirical formula [T. E. Sheridan, Phys. Plasmas 7, 3084 (2000)] for sheath expansion to the double prob...

The charged particle dynamics in low-pressure oxygen plasmas excited by odd harmonic dual frequency waveforms (low frequency of 13.56 MHz and high frequency of 40.68 MHz) are investigated using a one-dimensional numerical simulation in regimes of both low and high electronegativity. In the low electronegativity regime, the time and space averaged electron and negative ion densities are approxim...
