In a power system, having a high level of renewable energy penetration requires a large amount of ancillary services to balance the supply and demand in real time. Commercial buildings have significant thermal capacity and so offer large potential for providing such services. Recent research has shown that the power consumption of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system can...
Neurocognitive findings in the field of eating disorders have consistently highlighted two aspects of executive functioning that pose particular difficulties for those with anorexia nervosa (AN): poor set-shifting and weak coherence. The current piece of research aims to explore the prevalence and clinical correlates of women with AN that show a neurocognitive profile consistent with both poor ...
Anycast is widely used in critical Internet infrastructures, including root DNS servers, to improve their scalability, resilience, and geographic proximity to clients. In practice, anycast depends on interdomain routing to direct clients to their “closest” sites. As a result, anycast’s performance is largely a result of available BGP routes. We provide what we believe to be the first longitudin...
Inefficiencies naturally form as organizations grow in size and complexity. The knowledge required to address these inefficiencies is often stove-piped across different organizational silos, geographic locations, professional disciplines. Crowdsourcing provides a way tap into the experiences of diverse groups people rapidly identify more effectively solve inefficiencies. We developed prototype ...
This paper considers the measurement of firm’s specific (in)efficiency while allows for the possible heterogeneous technologies adopted by different firms. A flexible stochastic frontier model with random coefficients is proposed to distinguish technical inefficiency from technological differences across firms. Posterior inference of the model is made possible via the simulation-based approach,...
This paper introduces a novel type of memetic algorithm based Topology and Weight Evolving Artificial Neural Network (TWEANN) system called DX Neural Network (DXNN). DXNN implements a number of interesting features, amongst which is: a simple and database friendly tuple based encoding method, a 2 phase neuroevolutionary approach aimed at removing the need for speciation due to its intrinsic pop...
We develop a version of the fundamental theorem of asset pricing for discrete-time markets with proportional transaction costs and model uncertainty. A robust notion of no-arbitrage of the second kind is defined and shown to be equivalent to the existence of a collection of strictly consistent price systems.
