We show that, to a very good approximation, the ratio of the spin-flip to the non-flip parts of the elastic proton-nucleus amplitude is the same as for proton-nucleon scattering at very high energy. The result is used to do a realistic calculation of the analyzing power A N for pC scattering in the Coulomb-nuclear interference (CNI) region of momentum transfer.

We report a new measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in elastic electron scattering from the proton at backward scattering angles. This asymmetry is sensitive to the strange magnetic form factor of the proton as well as electroweak axial radiative corrections. The new measurement of A = -4.92+/-0.61+/-0.73 ppm provides a significant constraint on these quantities. The implications for ...

We discuss the application of an effective field theory (EFT) which incorporates the chiral symmetry of QCD to Compton scattering from the proton and deuteron. We describe the chiral EFT analysis of the γp scattering database presented in our recent review [1], which gives: α E1 = 10.5± 0.5(stat)± 0.8(theory) , β (p) M1 = 2.7± 0.5(stat)± 0.8(theory), for the electric and magnetic dipole polariz...

We perform phenomenological applications of modified gluon propagators and running coupling constants in scattering processes in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The modified forms of propagators and running coupling constant are obtained by non-perturbative methods. The processes investigated includes the diffractive ones – proton-proton elastic scattering, light vector meson photo-production and...

Independent multiple scattering (‘Landshoff’) contributions to proton-proton elastic scattering at wide angles are calculated in the quark-diquark model. Results confirm previous observations about the magnitude of these contributions. The use of the quark-diquark model extends the applicability of perturbative QCD calculations down to lower values of momentum transfer substantially. 12.38.Bx, ...

We demonstrate that the angular distribution of hadrons produced in semiinclusive deep inelastic final states is related to the inclusive longitudinal structure function. This relation could provide a new method of accessing FL(x,Q 2) in deep inelastic scattering measurements. The internal structure of the proton as probed in deep inelastic lepton-proton scattering can be parameterised in terms...

First information on the chirally odd twist-3 proton distribution function e(x) is extracted from the azimuthal asymmetry, ALU , in the electro-production of pions from deeply inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons off unpolarized protons, which has been recently measured by CLAS collaboration. Furthermore parameter-free predictions are made for azimuthal asymmetries, AUL, f...

The measurement of transverse spin effects in semi-inclusive deepinelastic scattering (SIDIS) is an important part of the COMPASS physics program. In the years 2002-2004 data was taken by scattering a 160GeV/c muon beam off a transversely polarized deuteron target. In 2007, additional data was collected on a transversely polarized proton target. New preliminary results for the Collins and Siver...

The differential cross sections of elastic proton-proton $(pp)$ and proton-antiproton $(p\overline{p})$ scattering are studied in a holographic QCD model, considering the strong Coulomb interaction Regge regime. Based on previous studies interactions described terms Pomeron Reggeon exchange, we add contribution by photon exchange. We present momentum transfer dependence rates for each component...

The large rapidity gap events, observed at HERA, have changed considerably our physical picture of deep inelastic scattering during the past years. We review the present theoretical understanding of diffractive DIS with emphasis on the close relation to inclusive DIS. This includes success and limitations of the leading twist description, the connection between diffractive and inclusive parton ...
