A single antegrade Rush nail was used to treat 37 fractures of the distal humerus extending to the olecranon fossa and up to 6.5 cm proximal to it. In order to stabilise the fracture, the bent tip of the Rush nail was directed into the lateral epicondylar ridge. This gave immediate stability. All the fractures united without residual stiffness of the shoulder or elbow.
BACKGROUND Proximal humerus fractures are represented as 4-5% of all fractures, with incidence notably growing with age. Since surgical internal fixation in treatment of proximal humeral fractures is used, fractures of osteoporotic bone and choice of plate for their osteosynthesis represent particular problem. The aim of the study was to test two locking plates: Philos plate with locking screws...
PURPOSE To evaluate factors predictive of recurrence following curettage of simple bone cysts (SBCs) in the proximal humerus. METHODS Records of 29 male and 3 female patients aged 3 to 22 (mean, 11) years who underwent curettage with or without bone grafting for a solitary SBC in the proximal humerus were reviewed. The appearance, size, location, activity level, and fracture pattern of each c...
Introduction and purpose: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the leading causes death worldwide. There are many factors that increase risk its occurence. High costs treatment, non-specific symptoms high mortality disease determine further search for new methods treatment diagnostics. The aim study to incidence PE in patients after fracture proximal end humerus.
 Materials methods: A literat...
Primary repair of pectoralis major tendon with bony tunnels and anchor sutures in the proximal humerus creates a potential weakness and stress riser leading to increased risk of periprosthetic fracture and nerve damage at the site of weakness with subsequent injury, if not allowed to heal satisfactorily with adequate period of rest.
There is a specific type of displaced four-part fracture of the proximal humerus which consists of valgus impaction of the head fragment; this deserves special consideration because the rate of avascular necrosis is lower than that of other displaced four-part fractures. Using either closed reduction or limited open reduction and minimal internal fixation, 74% satisfactory results can be achiev...
BACKGROUND The use of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) via anterolateral deltoid splitting has good outcomes in the management of proximal humerus fractures. While using this approach has several advantages, including minimal soft tissue disruption, preservation of natural biology and minimal blood loss, there is an increased risk for axillary nerve damage. This study compared the...
Reverse shoulder arthroplasty is an attractive alternative option in treating three- or four-part fractures of the proximal humerus. The main goal of the current study was to evaluate the functional and radiographic results after primary reverse shoulder arthroplasty of three- or four-part fractures of the proximal humerus in patients older than 75 years old. Between 2008 and 2010, 29 consecuti...
