Background: 18F-FLT is a novel PET radiotracer which has demonstrated a strong potential utility for imaging cellular proliferation in human tumors in vivo. To facilitate future regulatory approval of 18F-FLT for clinical use, we wished to demonstrate the safety of radiotracer doses of 18F-FLT administered to human subjects, by: 1) performing an evaluation of the toxicity of 18F-FLT administere...

SPECT/CT imaging provides detailed information on the radiotracer distribution and enables simultaneous lesion morphology evaluation. This hybrid imaging delivers complementary information about patient's disease. We present two cases in which SPECT/CT imaging and cooperation between the nuclear medicine physician and radiologist quickly clarified the diagnosis, sparing patient unnecessary diag...

Her technetium-99m diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (99mTc-DTPA) radioaerosol inhalation lung scintigraphy (May 21, 2008) revealed marked hypoventilation of the left lung and retention of the radiotracer in the right peri-hilar region, suggestive of a parenchymal process. The use of 99mTC human albumin macroaggregates (99mTC MAA) revealed no perfusion in the left lung and perfusion defects in...

The (18)F-choline PET-CT (FCH) has better performance in the assessment of patients with prostate cancer than (18)F-FDG. However, similarly, it is also not a tumor specific radiotracer. We present four (18)F-FCH PET-CT scans in which false positive findings were correctly assessed after evaluation with CT, clinical parameters and/or histological analysis.

We demonstrate the use of the miniaturised Medipix positron sensor for detection of the clinical PET radiotracer, [(68)Ga]gallium-citrate, on a silica-based monolith, towards microfluidic quality control. The system achieved a far superior signal-to-noise ratio compared to conventional sodium iodide-based radio-HPLC detection and allowed real-time visualisation of positrons in the monolith.

The synthesis of reference standards and expected in vivo metabolites of the first adenosine A3 PET radiotracer [18F]FE@SUPPY ([18F]fluoroethyl 4,6-diethyl-5-[(ethyl-sulfanyl)carbonyl]-2-phenylpyridine-3-carboxylate) was achieved by using a straightforward microwave assisted alkylation method, which allowed O/S-chemoselective alkylation of the starting material 1 to give each target compound 2-...

A copper-mediated radiofluorination of aryl- and vinylboronic acids with K(18)F is described. This method exhibits high functional group tolerance and is effective for the radiofluorination of a range of electron-deficient, -neutral, and -rich aryl-, heteroaryl-, and vinylboronic acids. This method has been applied to the synthesis of [(18)F]FPEB, a PET radiotracer for quantifying metabotropic ...

The principles and scope of the application of radioisotopes and ionising radiation in industry are reviewed as an introduction to nuclear methods of control in sugar milling and refining. Details of the South African usage of radioactive materials are given, indicating the absence of the sugar industry. The potential of the radiotracer technique is emphasised in the light of reported investiga...

A case of a woman aged 46 years with signs of rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure is presented. Coxsackie serum test was positive. Increased uptake of Technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) by muscles of thighs and calves was observed. After 1 year no increased accumulation of radiotracer in the muscles was found.

UNLABELLED The accuracy of myocardial perfusion SPECT improves with attenuation correction. Algorithms for attenuation correction in hybrid SPECT/CT systems have the potential for misregistration of emission and transmission scans because CT and SPECT are obtained sequentially. Misregistration will influence regional tracer distribution and may reduce diagnostic accuracy. This study focused on ...
