Based on the conceptual design of Laser Driven IFE Power Plant, the technical and physical issues have been examined. R&D on key issues that affect the feasibility of power plant have been proceeded taking into account the collaboration in the field of laser driver, fuel pellet, reaction chamber and system design. It is concluded that the technical feasibility of IFE power plant seems to be rea...

We review the current status of the solar neutrino oscillation parameters. We discuss the conditions under which measurements from future solar neutrino experiments would determine the oscillation parameters precisely. Finally we expound the potential of long baseline reactor anti-neutrino experiments in measuring the solar neutrino oscillation parameters.

In this paper, a control system design oriented analysis of a batch reactor used for tanning waste recovery is presented. The analysis is performed with the help of modelling and simulation means and provides useful information for optimal control design of the process.

Based on the recent experiment results of LHD and the magnet technology-cost basis developed for ITER construction, the design window of helical reactors are analyzed. For searching design windows and investigating their economical potential, we have developed a mass-cost estimating model linked with system design code (HeliCos). We found that the LHD-type helical reactor has the technically an...

The Fluoride-salt-cooled High-temperature Test Reactor (FHTR) is a test reactor concept that aims to demonstrate the neutronics, thermal-hydraulics, materials, tritium management, and to address other reactor operational and maintenance issues before a commercial Fluoride-salt-cooled High-temperature Reactor (FHR) can be deployed. The MIT Nuclear Systems Design class proposed a design for a 100...

The problem of designing the pellet characteristics for existing fixed-bed reactors has been studied. The reactor is assumed to be a unidimensional, plug-flow, heterogeneous type. Three particle shapes, two intraparticle mass transfer mechanisms, two kinds of film resistance to mass transfer and two poisoning patterns have been considered. An economic balance to both product market price and pe...

Biomass steam pretreatment is a key process in converting agricultural wastes to bioethanol. The pretreatment occurs in a large pressurized tank called a thermal reactor. Two key parameters influence the successfulness of the process: the reactor temperature, and the retention time. A particle pump pressurizes untreated biomass from atmospheric to reactor pressure with recycled steam from the r...

Continuous flow reactors show great promise for large-scale synthesis of quantum dots. Here, we discuss results for the synthesis of multi-layered Cd-based hybrid nanocrystals - CdSe/CdS/ZnS, CdS/ZnS, and CdSeS/ZnS - in a continuous flow reactor. The simple reactor design and liquid-phase chemistry obviate the need for preheating or in-line mixing, and the chosen reactor dimensions and operatin...

Reactor and reaction engineering play a vital role in petroleum and chemical processing. The aim of this article is to acquaint the reader with the interaction between reactor design=selection and the characteristics of the chemical reaction of interest. Reactor selection and design are the basis of economical and safe operation. Chemical reactions in petroleum refining include a huge spectrum ...

Our previous studies on water cooled thorium breeder reactor based on matured pressurized water reactor (PWR) plant technology concluded that reduced moderated core by arranging fuel pins in a triangular tight lattice array and using heavy water as coolant is appropriate for achieving better breeding performance and higher burn-up simultaneously [1–6]. One optimum core that produces 3.5 GW ther...
