Tuberculosis is common among solid-organ transplant recipients, including renal transplants. Tuberculosis of the thyroid gland is a rare diagnosis. We report on a renal transplant recipient with subacute fever associated with a neck mass diagnosed as thyroid tuberculosis. No prior publication has reported a case of posttransplant thyroid tuberculosis. This is an important diagnostic considerati...

We report a renal transplant recipient infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis who presented with severe intestinal bleeding. The bleeding was the result of an injured vessel of mesenteric artery distal branches diagnosed by traditional arteriography and computed tomography angiography. As the patient's condition was serious, the only considered rescue therapy was endovascular treatment. The e...

Background: Chang in the serum K+ level may increase perioperative morbidity and mortality in kidney transplant recipients. Thus this research was done with the aim of evaluated of K+ change in kidney transplant recipients. Hence the following study was carried to evaluate the fluctuation of potassium ion in the kidney transplant recipient patients. Materials and Methods: In a simple randomized...

Retroperitoneal lymphocele is one of the common complications following renal transplantation, and usually present with persistent lymphatic drain in immediate post transplant period or perigraft collection in post transplant routine ultrasound. In this case report, we present a renal transplant recipient who presented with acute urinary retention and right sided lower limb swelling mimicking d...

Although widely believed to resolve within 6 to 12 months of successful renal transplantation, hyperparathyroidism may persist or develop after renal transplantation and eventually require parathyroidectomy. Avid calcium retention by demineralized bones (hungry bone syndrome) is well-recognized after parathyroidectomy and usually resolves after a few weeks. This report documents the case of a r...

INTRODUCTION Allograft failure due to immunological or non-immunological causes or a combination and patient death after transplantation are the 2 major causes of renal transplant loss. This paper reviews the various causes of allograft failure and explores strategies for its prevention. RESULTS Immune mechanisms of renal allograft failure are those mediated by acute and chronic rejection and...

INTRODUCTION Neurological complications leading to morbidity and mortality are not frequent in renal transplant recipients. Here, we report a renal transplant recipient who presented with diminished strength in his limbs probably due to multiple etiologies of axonal sensorimotor polyneuropathy, which resolved with intravenous immunoglobulin. CASE PRESENTATION A 49-year-old Iranian male renal ...

We report a case of metastatic malignant melanoma discovered in a living related donor shortly after renal transplant and subsequently diagnosed in the recipient. The recipient hepatic metastases were followed with serial computed tomography (CT) during regression/rejection of tumor after cessation of immunosuppression and allograft removal. Correlation made with serial liver mass biopsies.

OBJECTIVES Despite comorbidity associated with chronic kidney disease, little data exist applying comorbidity scoring systems to renal transplant recipients. This study compared the performance of 7 established comorbidity scores in predicting mortality after kidney transplantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed prospectively collected data from 2033 incident renal transpl...

The scenario of a renal transplant recipient who is diagnosed with HIV infection in the late post transplant period is very uncommon. The viral infection effect on immunologic stability, regulatory cells, and allogeneic response during immune quiescence and graft acceptance provides a fertile ground in organ transplantation research and translational immunology.
