We study the two-dimensional extension of the Fano-Anderson model on the basis of a two-dimensional optical waveguide array with a bi-modal defect. We demonstrate numerically the persistence of the Fano resonance in wavepacket scattering process by the defect. An analytical approximation is derived for the total scattered light power. c © 2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: 190.0190, 19...

A specific resonance light scattering bioassay for homocysteine is developed on the basis of target-involved assembly of polyethyleneimine-capped Ag-nanoclusters. The bioassay permits discriminating homocysteine from cysteine, glutathione and other amino acids, and allows sensitive and selective detection of homocysteine with a detection limit of 42 nM.

The impact of pulse shape is studied in order to enhance time delaying in Brillouin slow-light. An exponential-like pulse with 14-ns FWHM duration is delayed up to 31-ns in a 27 MHz wide Brillouin resonance. ©2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.4370) Nonlinear optics, fibers; (290.5900) Scattering, stimulated Brillouin; (350.5500) Propagation

We report the excitation of a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) close to the orthogonal axis of a gold (Au) film on borosilicate glass. Direct spectroscopic measurement of SPR shifts using different liquids are made at ∼5° incidence within a reflection spectrophotometer. The proposed mechanism to establish coupling and plasmon localization is the scattering of light able to penetrate across the f...

We theoretically investigate the correlated dynamics of N coherently driven atoms coupled to a standing-wave cavity mode. For red detuning between the driving field and the cavity as well as the atomic resonance frequencies, we predict a light force induced self-organization of the atoms into one of two possible regular patterns, which maximize the cooperative scattering of light into the cavit...

Radiation transport and multiple scattering calculations are presented and compared with experimental observations to characterize light attenuation in high emissivity nanopowders irradiated with low power laser light at room temperature, and to explain the associated white light emission and the onset of melting. Using radiation tuned to an absorption resonance of Yb dopants in Y2O3 nanopowder...

Abstract A facile method to fabricate volumetric light-guide plate (LGP) by micro-nanostructure of Ag/SiO 2 composite was presented in this study. The Ag NPs/SiO were first prepared from a mixture yellowish-brown NPs colloids and SiO powder electrostatic self-assembly method. Its chemical physical properties investigated scanning transmission microscopy (TEM), electron (SEM) Energy dispersive X...

The evidence for the existence of a light and broad resonance in I=J=0 ππ scattering process – named as the σ resonance – has been accumulated, and more and more physicists working on the subject accepted the renaissance of the σ resonance. Among those works, model independent analysis 1), 2) are vital in clarifying the issue whether the σ resonance exists or not, since one has to distinguish a...
