Streptomyces sp. US 24 and Streptomyces sp. TN 58, two strains producing interesting bioactive molecules, were successfully transformed using E. coli ET12567 (pUZ8002), as a conjugal donor, carrying the integrative plasmid pSET152. For the Streptomyces sp. US 24 strain, two copies of this plasmid were tandemly integrated in the chromosome, whereas for Streptomyces sp. TN 58, the integration was...

We report here the main characteristics of 'Arabia massiliensis' strain Marseille-P3078T gen. nov., sp. nov., 'Gordonibacter massiliensis' Marseille-P2775T sp. nov. and 'Bacilliculturomica massiliensis' strain Marseille-P3303 gen. nov., sp. nov. The culturomics approach combined with taxonogenomics was used to characterize these strains, which were all isolated from a faecal specimen of a 50-ye...

The spore photoproduct (SP) is the main DNA lesion after UV-C irradiation, and its repair is crucial for the resistance of spores to UV. The aims of the present study were to assess the formation and repair of bipyrimidine photoproducts in spore DNA of various Bacillus subtilis strains using a sensitive HPLC tandem mass spectrometry assay. Strains deficient in nucleotide excision repair, spore ...

The addition of DL-7-azatryptophan (AZAT), a tryptophan analog, to continuous cultures of Anabaena sp. strain CA grown with 10 mM nitrate as the nitrogen source resulted in the differentiation of heterocysts. Analysis of the intracellular amino acid pools of Anabaena sp. strain CA after the addition of AZAT showed a marked decline in the intracellular glutamate pool and a slight increase in the...

Hydrogen is the central free intermediate in the degradation of wood by termite gut microbes and can reach concentrations exceeding those measured for any other biological system. Degenerate primers targeting the largest family of [FeFe] hydrogenases observed in a termite gut metagenome have been used to explore the evolution and representation of these enzymes in termites. Sequences were clone...
