This paper presents a method for compensating the elevation angle fluctuations occurring in airborne radiometry due to aircraft roll and pitch. The correction is based on a radiative transfer model, and is demonstrated by real data from conical scans over the ocean, showing good results.

A linear pole-placement technique is presented for magnetic momentum removal of Earth-pointing spacecraft. First probed are the twomost commonly used momentum removal schemes, linear and bang-bangH £ B schemes (whereH is the excess angularmomentumvector andB is the geomagneticŽ eld vector), bothbased on a comparison between a constant disturbance torque and an averaged magnetic control torque a...

The superior manoeuvrability of hummingbirds emerges from complex interactions of specialized neural and physiological processes with the unique flight dynamics of flapping wings. Escape manoeuvring is an ecologically relevant, natural behaviour of hummingbirds, from which we can gain understanding into the functional limits of vertebrate locomotor capacity. Here, we extend our kinematic analys...

OBJECTIVE To assess the biomechanical impact of commercially available alternate keyboard designs.DESIGN. A repeated measures study was conducted in a laboratory setting, with planned comparisons of Pitch, Roll and Yaw angles of the keyboards. Ten keyboard conditions were tested. Dependent measures included tendon travel, wrist deviations, and wrist and finger kinematics.BACKGROUND. Various alt...

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the semicircular canals and otolith organs on respiration in humans. On the basis of animal studies, we hypothesized that vestibular activation would elicit a vestibulorespiratory reflex. To test this hypothesis, respiratory measures, arterial blood pressure, and heart rate were measured during engagement of semicircular canals and/or ot...

If the rotational vestibuloocular reflex (VOR) were to achieve optimal retinal image stabilization during head rotations in three-dimensional space, it must turn the eye around the same axis as the head, with equal velocity but in the opposite direction. This optimal VOR strategy implies that the position of the eye in the orbit must not affect the VOR. However, if the VOR were to follow Listin...

Most methods for the preliminary safety and performance evaluation of airplane dynamical response, stability characteristics, and climb performance in icing conditions require relatively sophisticated methods, based on detailed empirical data and existing flight data. This paper extends a pitch axis 3-degree-of-freedommethodology to the fully coupled, 6-degree-of-freedom case. It evaluates vari...

This study evaluated the setup uncertainties for brain sites when using BrainLAB's ExacTrac X-ray 6D system for daily pretreatment to determine the optimal planning target volume (PTV) margin. Between August 2012 and April 2015, 28 patients with brain tumors were treated by daily image-guided radiotherapy using the BrainLAB ExacTrac 6D image guidance system of the Novalis-Tx linear accelerator....

This paper carries out the mathematical modeling, simulation, and control law design for a quadrotor with variable-pitch propellers. The use of variable-pitch propeller for thrust variation instead of RPM regulation facilitates generation of negative thrust, thereby augmenting the rate of change of thrust generation amenable for aggressive maneuvering. Blade element theory along with momentum t...

The work reported here pertains to the design, modelling and analysis of a testbed for a Gearless Pitch-Roll Wrist (PRW), currently under development at McGill University’s Centre for Intelligent Machines. This work aims at the mechanical-parameter identification of the Spherical Epicyclic Cam Train (SECT) prototype of the PRW. The testbed is constructed and set-up, in order to conduct experime...
