Organic scintillators are widely used for fast neutron detection and spectroscopy. Several effects complicate the interpretation of results from detectors based upon these materials. First, fast neutrons will often leave a detector before depositing all of their energy within it. Second, fast neutrons will typically scatter several times within a detector, and there is a non-proportional relati...

The ESO Infrared Detector High Speed Array Control and Processing Electronics, IRACE, is designed as a modular system which supports readout and data processing of arrays with four, and eventually more, output channels. In addition, the system can handle several separate arrays by routing the data to multiple processing chains. Detector front-end(s) are galvanically isolated from the data proce...

The next great energy frontier in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions is quickly approaching with the completion of the Large Hadron Collider and the ATLAS experiment is poised to make important contributions in understanding QCD matter at extreme conditions. While designed for high-pT measurements in high-energy p+ p collisions, the detector is well suited to study many aspects of heavy ion coll...

Scanning X-ray microprobes are unique tools for the nanoscale investigation of specimens from the life, environmental, materials and other fields of sciences. Typically they utilize absorption and fluorescence as contrast mechanisms. Phase contrast is a complementary technique that can provide strong contrast with reduced radiation dose for weakly absorbing structures in the multi-keV range. In...

Infrared radiations are radiations below (infra) visible spectrum. This emergent dual use technology field is fast emerging amongst the most ubiquitous ones. It spans from low-end automatic supermarket door openers to high-end space based detectors used to detect nuclear tests, missiles and intra galactic radiations. At the heart of this technology is the IR detector. Objective of this report i...

We explore a new technique for e cient dynamic race detection on programs using arrays intensively. Standard techniques lead to redundant operations and redundant representations in many common cases. For these common cases, we design dynamic compression methods that eliminate this redundancy. Finally, we implement our techniques in a prototype tool called ShrinkWrap, which is built as an exten...

During the expected 5+ years of operation, the Spitzer Space Telescope is and will continue to produce outstanding infrared images and spectra, and greatly further scientific understanding of our universe. The Spitzer Space Telescope’s instruments are cryogenically cooled to achieve low dark current and low noise. After the cryogens are exhausted, the Spitzer Space Telescope will only be cooled...

The readout of detector arrays requires the monolithic or hybrid integration of a integrate circuit multiplexer with the detector array. In most LWIR and VLWIR applications, a hybrid approach is used. For example, the detector array may be built from HgCdTe and the readout integrated circuit may be silicon CMOS [1]. The two integrated circuits are mated through a bump-bonding process in which e...

Two Hyperion images of the Greenland ice sheet are used to characterize errors in the VNIR and SWIR detector arrays of Hyperion. Spatial variability in detector output is seen in both arrays and, in both cases, is largest at the shorter wavelengths and decreases as wavelength increases. Standard deviations of the maximum variability are 40 DN for the VNIR array and 123 DN for the SWIR array. Te...
