CD4(+)CD25(+) regulatory T cells (Tregs) suppress immune responses to alloantigens. The in vivo circulation and tissue localization of Tregs during an adaptive immune response remain unclear. We noninvasively tracked luciferase-expressing Tregs over time in an allogeneic bone marrow transplant model and demonstrated colocalization with effector T cells and initial expansion in secondary lymphoi...

It is shown that a known asymptotic expansion of the Kummer function U(a, b, z) as a tends to infinity is valid for z on the full Riemann surface of the logarithm. A corresponding result is also proved in a more general setting considered by Olver (1956).

Amorphic mutations in the recombination activating genes RAG1 and RAG2 have been reported to cause T- B- SCID, whereas hypomorphic mutations led to the expansion of a few autoimmune T cell clones responsible for the Omenn syndrome phenotype. We report here a novel clinical and immunological phenotype associated with recessive RAG1 hypomorphic mutations in 4 patients from 4 different families. T...

Vesicle fusion is mediated by an assembly of SNARE proteins between opposing membranes, but it is unknown whether transmembrane domains (TMDs) of SNARE proteins serve mechanistic functions that go beyond passive anchoring of the force-generating SNAREpin to the fusing membranes. Here, we show that conformational flexibility of synaptobrevin-2 TMD is essential for efficient Ca(2+)-triggered exoc...

A short-term electricity market coordinated by a system operator provides a foundation for a competitive electricity market. In this setting, transmission congestion contracts are equivalent to perfectly tradeable physical transmission rights. With such contracts to allocate transmission benefits, it would be possible to rely more on market forces, partly if not completely, to drive transmissio...

We adapt a partial order reduction technique based on stubborn sets, originally proposed for detecting dead ends in Petri Nets, to the setting of optimal planning. We demonstrate that stubborn sets can provide significant state space reductions on standard planning benchmarks, outperforming the expansion core method.

We give a summary on the geometry of iterated Stratonovich integrals. For this exposition, we always have the connection to stochastic Taylor expansion in mind. In particular, we believe that “cubature on Wiener space” is best understood in the setting presented in this text. Besides cubature on Wiener space, we also give a second application regarding the heat kernel on nilpotent free Lie groups.

In the so-called evidence-based medicine (EBM) era, pre-market clinical trials showing equivalent or superior benefit from new drugs versus existing therapies are required by regulatory bodies, while the process for approval of medical devices is less stringent [1]. The expansion of device-based therapies for cardiovascular conditions makes cardiology the ideal setting for analysing the peculia...

Requiring only category names as user input is a highly attractive, yet hardly explored, setting for text categorization. Earlier bootstrapping results relied on similarity in LSA space, which captures rather coarse contextual similarity. We suggest improving this scheme by identifying concrete references to the category name’s meaning, obtaining a special variant of lexical expansion.

After reformulating Shintani’s theory of FourierJacobi expansion of automorphic forms on U(2, 1) in the adelic setting, we show that the primitive components of holomorphic Eisenstein series are expressed in terms of the periods of primitive theta functions and critical values of Hecke L-functions.
