BACKGROUND New ablation strategies for atrial fibrillation or nonidiopathic ventricular tachycardia are increasingly based on anatomic consideration and require the placement of ablation lesions at the correct anatomic locations. This study sought to evaluate the accuracy of the first clinically available image integration system for catheter ablation on 3-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (...

In order to assess the efficacy of hysteroscopic endometrial ablation and factors which are important in it's success, a prospective, randomized study was performed in Shiraz university hospitals between Sep. 1995 to Feb. 1998. 50 patients with chief complaints of menorrhagia that were in reproductive age (25- 50 years) and had shown no response to medication and D&C underwent endometrial ...

BACKGROUND To compare the corneal healing response between conventional and phototherapeutic keratectomy through a masking agent, in rabbit corneas. METHODS 24 adult rabbits underwent phototherapeutic keratectomy. Animals were divided in two groups: 12 received photoablation through a masking agent (PALM gel) and the remaining 12 received conventional phototherapeutic keratectomy of equal dep...

A simple and one-step method to form a rough ZnO layer consisting of micro/nanoscale hierarchical structures via direct femtosecond laser ablation of the Zn surface is reported for the first time. The resultant surfaces show switchable wettability between superhydrophobicity and quasi-superhydrophilicity via alternate UV irradiation and dark storage.

The optical damage associated with high intensity laser excitation of silver nanoparticles (NPs) was studied. In order to investigate the mechanisms of optical nonlinearity of a nanocomposite and their relation with its ablation threshold, a high-purity silica sample implanted with Ag ions was exposed to different nanosecond and picosecond laser irradiations. The magnitude and sign of picosecon...

BACKGROUND Radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation provides curative treatment for idiopathic ventricular tachycardia (VT). METHODS AND RESULTS Nineteen consecutive patients with an idiopathic VT underwent RF catheter ablation. An integrated 3-phase mapping approach was used, consisting of the successive application of online 62-lead body surface QRS integral mapping, directed regional paced bo...

zones showed unstable results with an unacceptably high complication rate.1-3 This led to design of a 9.0 mm hyperopia ablation profile.4 Today, most laser manufacturers offer relatively large treatment zones for hyperopia. A 5.5 to 6.0 mm optical zone and 9.0 mm ablation zone diameter seems to be the current standard. Figure 1 shows some examples of nominal optical zone (OZ) and ablation zone ...

Pulsed laser ablation of LiF was studied using both nanosecond (ns) and femtosecond (fs) pulses at 248 nm. Optical emission from electronically excited Li and F atoms in the plume of ejected material was investigated by wavelength, time and spatially resolved imaging methods. Careful analysis of images of species selected optical emission yielded estimates of the mean velocities of the Li+ ions...

PURPOSE To evaluate the current clinical evidence of safety and efficacy of intraoperative topical application of 0.02% mitomycin C (MMC) used for up to 2 minutes after surface ablation for correction of myopia. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted of Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, and EMBASE to identify relevant trials comparing surface ablation for correction of myopia with a...

In this paper, we present a left atrium registration system which utilizes a 3D intra-cardiac ultrasound catheter for faster (more than 700 times) and higher quality surface registration point collection than current systems and eventually improves the registration accuracy and stability. With better registration our system can greatly improve the ablation catheter navigation system which is be...
