[1] A series of hypervelocity impact experiments were conducted at NASA Ames Vertical Range, using spherical copper projectiles and polycrystalline dolomite targets. The intensities of atomic lines and molecular bands in the first 2 microseconds after each impact were measured using a high-speed spectrometer system and assessed as functions of impact velocity (2–5.5 km/s) at a fixed impact angl...

Clusters are dominating high-performance computing (HPC) today. The success of this architecture is based on the fact that it profits from the improvements provided by main-stream computing well known under the label of Moore’s Law. But trying to get to Exascale within this decade might require additional endeavors beyond surfing this technology wave. In order to find a possible direction we re...

in this paper, a hybrid solid oxide fuel cell (sofc) and micro gas turbine (mgt) power system is parametrically studied to evaluate the effect of different operating conditions. the sofc/mgt power system includes sofc reactor, combustion chamber, compressor and turbine units, and two heat exchangers. the effects of fuel utilization, temperature, and pressure are assessed on performance of the h...

for Two-Component Power Law Irregularity Spectra Charles S. Carrano, Charles L. Rino Institute for Scientific Research Boston College ABSTRACT We extend the phase screen power law theory for ionospheric scintillation to account for the case where the refractive index irregularities follow a two-component power law spectrum. The twocomponent model includes, as special cases, an unmodified power ...

S-systems are simple examples of power-law dynamical systems (polynomial systems with real exponents). For planar S-systems, we study global stability of the unique positive equilibrium and solve the center problem. Further, we construct a planar S-system with two limit cycles.

A model for the weighted bipartite network is proposed and the growth mechanism is based on the strength preferential attachment. By the rate equation approach, the strength distribution of the bottom nodes is provided and it has a shifted power-law tail, i.e., P (s) ∝ (s + θ)−γ , for large s. The expressions of the parameters θ and γ are also given.

— The spectra of the majority of bursts exhibit a low-energy power law index, α, that is either a constant or becomes softer with time. However, in the burst of 30 May 1996 α becomes harder. Here we show that this behavior can be explained by a hybrid model consisting of a thermal and a non-thermal component. In this burst the power-law index of the non-thermal component changes drastically fro...

Bejan s constructal theory is explored for a paradigm problem in electrical theory, analogue of a wide range of transport problems involving flow subject to a Ohm s Law model. The equi-potential optimisation is derived and generalised to further functional behaviour of resistances. The original case illustrates the power of Bejan s asymptoticintersection method. 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All r...

This paper studies the ability of salt diapirs to lift large inclusions of dense rocks (rafts). Dense inclusions will be lifted if salt in the diapir rises faster than the inclusions sink. The power-law rheologies of six different salts, and viscosities estimated for Newtonian salt are used to calculate the settling velocity of these inclusions as a function of their radii and density as well a...

The BeppoSAX High Energy Large Area Survey (HELLAS) has surveyed about 85 deg of sky in the 5–10 keV band down to a flux of 4− 5× 10 erg cm s . The source surface density of 16.9±6.4 deg at the survey limit corresponds to a resolved fraction of the 5–10 keV X–ray background (XRB) of the order of 20–30 %. Hardness ratios analysis indicates that the spectra of a substantial fraction of the HELLAS...
