The Plasmodium falciparum cGMP-dependent protein kinase (PfPKG) is a key regulator across the malaria parasite life cycle. Little is known about PfPKG's activation mechanism. Here we report that the carboxyl cyclic nucleotide binding domain functions as a "gatekeeper" for activation by providing the highest cGMP affinity and selectivity. To understand the mechanism, we have solved its crystal s...

The subclinical Dark Triad traits narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy (Paulhus & Williams, 2002) are related to antagonistic behaviors in interpersonal situations. The current study addresses whether these three traits entail different social consequences by investigating self-ratings, ratings of others, and ratings by others for the Dark Triad. In a naturalistic setting, 93 informal,...

High energy irradiation to the hydrogen bonded system is important in relevance with the initial process of DNA and enzyme damages. In the present study, the effects of radiation to catalytic triad have been investigated by means of direct ab-initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) calculation. As a model of the catalytic triad, Ser-His-Glu residue, which is one of the important enzymes in the acylati...

BACKGROUND Adolescent suicide has been a major concern in Taiwan and continues to be an important research issue for mental health workers. The cognitive triad, which refers to an adolescent's views of the self, the world, and the future, was found previously to be related to both depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation. However, researchers have paid less attention to exploring the roles of ...

As shown by Ashtekar in the mid 80’s, general relativity can be extended to incorporate degenerate metrics. This extension is not unique, however, as one can change the form of the hamiltonian constraints and obtain an alternative degenerate extension of general relativity that disagrees with Ashtekar’s original theory when the triads vectors are degenerate. In this paper, the constraint algebr...

OBJECTIVE To study the incidence of de novo multimorbidity across all ages in a geographically defined population with an emphasis on sex and ethnic differences. DESIGN Historical cohort study. SETTING All persons residing in Olmsted County, Minnesota, USA on 1 January 2000 who had granted permission for their records to be used for research (n=123 716). PARTICIPANTS We used the Rochester...

We investigated whether the patterns of coordination that emerged during a three-participant (triadic) jumping task were defined by the symmetries of the (multi) agent-environment task space. Triads were instructed to jump around different geometrical arrangements of hoops. The symmetry of the hoop geometry was manipulated to create two symmetrical and two asymmetrical participant-hoop configur...

The catalytic properties of enzymes, containing the Asp-His-Ser triads are deeply investigated for a long time. Serine endopeptidases, cutinases, acetylcholinesterases, cellulases, among other enzymes, contain these triads. We found that solely the geometric properties of just four points in the spatial structure of these enzymes are characteristic to their family.

The widespread existence of dominance hierarchies has been a central puzzle in social evolution, yet we lack a framework for synthesizing the vast empirical data on hierarchy structure in animal groups. We applied network motif analysis to compare the structures of dominance networks from data published over the past 80 years. Overall patterns of dominance relations, including some aspects of n...

Intuition and insight are intriguing phenomena of non-analytical mental functioning: whereas intuition denotes ideas that have been reached by sensing the solution without any explicit representation of it, insight has been understood as the sudden and unexpected apprehension of the solution by recombining the single elements of a problem. By face validity, the two processes appear similar; acc...
