Preparation of (di)benzocrown-substituted aryl-zinc or -boron reagents and their palladium-catalysed cross-coupling with functionalised aryl halides is described for convenient synthesis of novel crown ether systems.

The "chlorination/fluorination" technique for aliphatic trifluoromethyl ether synthesis was investigated and a range of products with various functional groups was prepared. The results were compared with oxidative desulfurization-fluorination of xanthates with the same structure.

A recent result of Schmidt has brought Williamson matrices back into the spotlight. In this paper a new algorithm is introduced to search for hard to find Williamson matrices. We find all nonequivalent Williamson matrices of odd order n up to n = 59. A series of pyridine ether PPAR agonists were synthesized through an ADDP and PS-PPh3 modified Mitsunobu protocol, which eliminated significant by-product formation. This method proved to be versatile, efficient and amenable to parallel synthesis.
