A novel zinc oxide - agar nanocomposite was successfully synthesized using zinc chloride as a precursor. The nanocomposite was prepared using a domestic microwave oven. The prepared nanocomposites have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV- visible spectroscopy. The crystalline properties...

Inexpensive, less-toxic ZnCl2 serves as the catalyst for selective cross-coupling of enynones and diazo compounds, an unprecedented reaction pathway for zinc carbenoids. A cascade sequence comprising formal cyclization/cross-coupling leads to a variety of 2-alkenylfurans.

The reaction of 1-bromo-methyl-1,4-diazo-niabicyclo-[2.2.2]octane bromide, zinc chloride and hydro-chloric acid in water yields the title compound, (C(7)H(15)BrN(2))[ZnCl(4)]. In the crystal, the components are linked by N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The Zn(II) atom has an approximately tetra-hedral coordination geometry.

An unprecedented cyclopropenation reaction of alkynes catalyzed by ZnCl2 is reported. While Simmons-Smith-type carbenoids failed in the [2 + 1]-cycloaddition with alkynes, the use of enynones as the carbene source enables the preparation of substituted 2-furyl cyclopropene derivatives with remarkable scope.

X-ray studies on human insulins prepared by semisynthetic and biosynthetic methods have recently been undertaken. Human insulin differs from porcine insulin only at the COOH terminus of the B-chain. The present study reports the crystal structure of 4-zinc human insulin, which is used clinically as a slow-acting preparation. The structure has been refined, using 1.85-A resolution data, to a res...
