Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NP) are widely spread in consumer products. Data about the toxicological characteristics of ZnO-NP is still under controversial discussion. The human skin is the most important organ concerning ZnO-NP exposure. Intact skin was demonstrated to be a sufficient barrier against NPs; however, defect skin may allow NP contact to proliferating cells. Within these cells, s...

ZnO nanoarchitectured anodes composed of the ZnO nanocactus array and the top ZnO particle layer are chemically integrated on ITO-PET substrates using a facile room-temperature chemical bath deposition method for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In the absence of high-temperature post-treatment and mechanical compression, a notable efficiency of 5.24% is simply achieved in the flexible ZnO D...

ZnO nanowires have been successfully fabricated on Si substrate by simple thermal evaporation of Zn powder under air ambient without any catalyst. Morphology and structure analyses indicated that ZnO nanowires had high purity and perfect crystallinity. The diameter of ZnO nanowires was 40 to 100 nm, and the length was about several tens of micrometers. The prepared ZnO nanowires exhibited a hex...

Antimony (Sb) doped p-type ZnO was studied by using Sb-ZnO/ZnO/Sb-ZnO p-n-p structure. Secondary ion mass spectrometry result confirmed the formation of the structure. Rectifying current-voltage characteristics between Sb-ZnO and undoped ZnO layers were achieved, proving the p-n junction was formed. The p-type behavior from the p-n-p structure was studied by using the capacitance-voltage measur...

Water pollution is a growing environmental issue which severely threatens human health. Consequently, development of novel materials for water purification and waste treatment is an important research topic. Functional nanomaterials exhibiting photocatalytic properties, along with a very high surface area, have been widely investigated, since these nanostructures are quite effective in the degr...

An environmentally benign antisolvent method has been developed to prepare Cu(2+)-doped ZnO nanocrystals with controllable dopant concentrations. A room temperature ionic liquid, known as a deep eutectic solvent (DES), was used as the solvent to dissolve ZnO powders. Upon the introduction of the ZnO-containing DES into a bad solvent which shows no solvation to ZnO, ZnO was precipitated and grow...

Silver nitrate induces spontaneous room temperature transformation of ZIF-8 into a composite of ZnO nanorods embedded in a ZIF-8 matrix. This first example of reverse transformation of ZIF-8 into ZnO is a convenient method for generating fixed ZnO nanoparticles in powders as well as films and coatings. The fabricated ZnO nanorod@ZIF-8 is photocatalytically active.

Stearate@Cu/ZnO nanocomposite particles with molar ratios of ZnO : Cu = 2 and 5 are synthesized by reduction of the metal–organic Cu precursor [Cu{(OCH(CH3)CH2N(CH3)2)}2] in the presence of stearate@ZnO nanoparticles. In the case of ZnO : Cu = 5, high-angle annular dark field-scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) combined with electronenergy-loss-spectroscopy (EELS) as well as ...

We report the influence of zinc oxide (ZnO) seed layers on the performance of ZnO-based memristive devices fabricated using an electrodeposition approach. The memristive element is based on a sandwich structure using Ag and Pt electrodes. The ZnO seed layer is employed to tune the morphology of the electrodeposited ZnO films in order to increase the grain boundary density as well as construct h...

The electron transport in dye-sensitized solar cells with a MOCVD (metal organic vapor deposition)-grown ZnO nanorod array (ZnO-N) or a mesoporous film prepared from ZnO colloids (ZnO-C) as the working electrode was compared. The electrodes were of similar thickness (2 mum) and sensitized with zinc(II) meso-tetrakis(3-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin, while the electrolyte was I(-)/I(3)(-) in 3-methoxyp...
