We demonstrate the first example of exfoliated layered europium hydroxide (LEuH) composites with a fluorescent molecule that exhibit blue luminescence. Co-quenching in the solid state, blue emission (440 nm) in formamide, and green emission (514 nm) in water-formamide were found, for which delamination and swollen states account for the versatile luminescence behaviors.

In our SERRS spectra of metmyoglobin by excitation at 514 nm, the peak at 1510 cm(-1), which is assigned to the 6-coordinated heme in the low spin state, was observed by the addition of imidazole and NaN3. Thus, the SERRS likely originates not from the non-native 5-coordinated heme, which is in the high spin state.

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy using a gold substrate and excitation at 514 nm can detect sub parts per million quantities of asphaltene and thereby petroleum. This simple format and sensitivity make it transformative for applications including sample triage, flow assurance, environmental protection and analysis of unique one of a kind materials.

A review of published reports showed that the sex ratio (proportion of boys) was low among infants conceived after ovulation had been induced.
