A manganese peroxidase gene (mnp1) from Phanerochaete chrysosporium was efficiently expressed in Aspergillus oryzae. Expression was achieved by fusing the mature cDNA of mnp1 with the A. oryzae Taka amylase promoter and secretion signal. The 3' untranslated region of the glucoamylase gene of Aspergillus awamori provided the terminator. The recombinant protein (rMnP) was secreted in an active fo...

The rice blast fungus, Magnaporthe oryzae, is a model plant pathogenic fungus and is a severe threat to global rice production. Over the past two decades, it has been found that the peroxisomes play indispensable roles during M. oryzae infection. Given the importance of the peroxisomes for virulence, we review recent advances of the peroxisomes roles during M. oryzae infection processes. We fir...

In the present study, mould mycelium of Aspergillus oryzae was used for biochemical conversion of L-tyrosine to L-DOPA because tyrosinase is an intracellular enzyme. The mutant Aspergillus oryzae IIB-6 was found to yield 3.72 fold higher production of L-DOPA than the parental strain. The comparison of kinetic parameters was also done which showed the greater ability of mutant to yield L-DOPA. W...

Nigrospora oryzae an endophytic fungus isolated from the leaf of a climber Pterolobium hexapetalum (Roth.) Sant. and Wagh. produced bioactive compound which are active against human pathogens. The organic extract (ethanol) of the endophyte Nigrospora oryzae was separated using HPLC and tested for biological activities. The ethanol extract was tested for antibacterial and anti fungal activity us...

background: atrazine is a widely used herbicide. the increasing salinity of many water resources has had a negative effect on atrazine biodegradation. the aim of this study was to isolate atrazine degrading bacteria in semi-salinity media.   methods: nine selected bacterial species were cultivated on the mineral salt broth culture medium containing atrazine (50, 100, 500 mg/l), nacl concentrati...

Azospirillum lipoferum and Pyricularia oryzae laccases were compared, using several substrates and inhibitors. Sixteen phenolic or nonphenolic compounds were found to be substrates of both fungal and bacterial laccases. In the presence of different phenol oxidase inhibitors, P. oryzae and A. lipoferum laccase activities had similar properties.

The bacterial infection of seeds is one of the most important quality factors affecting yield. Conventional detection methods for bacteria-infected seeds, such as biological, serological, and molecular tests, are not feasible since they require expensive equipment, and furthermore, the testing processes are also time-consuming. In this study, we use the Raman hyperspectral imaging technique to ...

Protein-enriched pea flour is toxic and repellent to three major stored grain pests, the rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.), the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) and rusty grain beetle, Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens). A unique and valuable aspect of the protein-enriched pea flour is that it is not toxic several parasitoids that are associated with two of these insect pests. ...

Genome dynamics of pathogenic organisms are driven by pathogen and host co-evolution, in which pathogen genomes are shaped to overcome stresses imposed by hosts with various genetic backgrounds through generation of a variety of isolates. This same principle applies to the rice blast pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae and the rice host; however, genetic variations among different isolates of M. oryzae...

Rice suffers dramatic yield losses due to blast pathogen Magnaporthe oryzae. Pseudomonas chlororaphis EA105, a bacterium that was isolated from the rice rhizosphere, inhibits M. oryzae. It was shown previously that pre-treatment of rice with EA105 reduced the size of blast lesions through jasmonic acid (JA)- and ethylene (ETH)-mediated ISR. Abscisic acid (ABA) acts antagonistically toward salic...
