Cardiac diseases are common post-stroke and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. One possible mechanism of acute cardiac injury is the neurogenic myocardial damage, where the cerebral injury is disturbing the normal sympathetic and parasympathetic neuronal outflow to the heart leading to cardiac damage including myocardial infarctions. The exact mechanism is not completely und...
conclusions we showed that patients with metabolic syndrome have larger infarct size compared to control subjects. background infarct size is an important surrogate end point for early and late mortality after acute myocardial infarction. despite the high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with atherosclerotic diseases, adequate data are still lacking regarding the extent of myocardia...

myocardial performance, utilizing the isolated canine heart preparation, was studied in two groups: normal control dogs and those subjected to hemorrhagic shock. a marked deterioration in myocardial functional capacity was observed in the shock group. from this study, myocardial incapacity resulting from the period of acute hypotension is felt to be a contributing factor in the death of animals...
Early repolarization variant (ERV or ERPV) is a enigmatic electrocardiographic phenomenon, characterized by prominent J wave and ST-segment elevation in multiple leads. Recently, there has been renewed interest in ERV because of similarities to the arrhythmogenic Brugada syndrome (BrS). Not much is known about the epidemiology of ERV and several studies have reported that this condition is asso...
C-reactive protein (CRP) response was studied in 44 patients with acute angina pectoris admitted to the coronary care unit. 71 % of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI)had positive CRP test while 73% of patients presumed to have unstable angina pectoris had negative CRP test. This test can be helpful in differentiating between acute MI and unstable angina pectoris.
