Protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) is a common post-stroke problem. PEM can independently induce a systemic acute-phase response, and pre-existing malnutrition can exacerbate neuroinflammation induced by brain ischemia. In contrast, the effects of PEM developing in the post-ischemic period have not been studied. Since excessive inflammation can impede brain remodeling, we investigated the effect...

Haptoglobin (Hp) is a haemoglobin-binding acute phase protein with three genetic types: Hp 1-1, Hp 2-1, Hp 2-2. We investigated 45 patients during the first 48 hours of acute myocardial infarction, and studied determinant factors and clinical correlates. Upon hospital admission, serum haptoglobin concentration was increased (1.95 +/- 0.94 g/l, mean +/- SD, P < 0.001) versus the reference popula...

C-reactive protein (CRP) response was studied in 44 patients with acute angina pectoris admitted to the coronary care unit. 71 % of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI)had positive CRP test while 73% of patients presumed to have unstable angina pectoris had negative CRP test. This test can be helpful in differentiating between acute MI and unstable angina pectoris.

Introduction: Psychotropic drugs exert their effects, in part, by increasing neurotrophin levels in the brain. Nerve growth factor (NGF) protein levels after treatment with only a limited number of psychotropics have been determined. The present study was designed in order to evaluate the effects of acute and chronic administration of different psychotropic drugs on NGF protein levels in fiv...

background: incidence and predominant subtype  of guillain-barre syndrome (gbs) differs geographically. electrophysiology has an important  role in early diagnosis and  prediction  of prognosis. this study  is conducted to determine the frequent  subtype  of gbs in a large group of patients  in iran and compare  nerve conduction studies in axonal and demyelinating forms of gbs. methods:    we  ...

Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an acute-phase protein mainly associated with HDL. To study the role of SAA in mediating changes in HDL composition and metabolism during inflammation, we generated mice in which the two major acute-phase SAA isoforms, SAA1.1 and SAA2.1, were deleted [SAA knockout (SAAKO) mice], and induced an acute phase to compare lipid and apolipoprotein parameters between wild-type ...

BACKGROUND Hybridomas that produce human monoclonal antibodies (HuMAbs) against Dengue virus (DV) had been prepared previously using peripheral blood lymphocytes from patients with DV during the acute and convalescent phases of a secondary infection. Anti-DV envelope glycoprotein (E) 99 clones, anti-DV premembrane protein (prM) 8 clones, and anti-DV nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) 4 clones were d...

Abstract Background The skin is the largest organ of body and has multiple functions. Wounds remain a significant healthcare problem due to large number traumatic pathophysiological conditions patients suffer. Methods Gene expression profiles 37 biopsies collected from undergoing split-thickness grafts at five different time points were downloaded two datasets (GSE28914 GSE50425) in Expression ...

Introduction : Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) is a Gram negative bacterium and one of the causative agents of acute bacterial meningitis, especially in infants and children less than 5 years old. Lipooligosaccharide (LOS), one of the virulence factors which plays an important role in pathogenesis of Hib, has multiple applications in diagnosis and conjugate vaccines. In this study, LOS ex...
