background: to determine prospectively the prevalence of anaerobic and aerobic infection in early onset (during 72 hours of age) neonatal sepsis, in tehran vali-e-asr hospital. methods: among all the live birth, neonates suspecting of having septicemia were investigated for isolation of microorganisms. culture bottle containing enriched tryptic soy broth was used for standard blood culture sys...

MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Background and Objectives: Contamination of drinking water sources with nitrate may cause adverse effects on human health. Due to operational and maintenance problems of physicochemical nitrate removal processes, using biological denitrification processes have been performed. The aim of this study is to evaluate nitrate removal efficiency from drinking water usin...

Studies on the process of nitrite reduction by cell-free extracts of denitrifying bacteria could materially contribute to our knowledge of its mechanism. Such investigations have so far been limited to those of Yamagata (1) with Bacillus pyocyaneus (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and of Robinson et al. (‘2) with Micrococcus haZodenitri$cans. Neither of these authors has examined the products of the re...

An anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) process was employed to remove nitrogen from wastewater generated a coffee brewing facility. The effects of caffeine and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in on anammox activity were investigated. inhibited synthetic with concentration greater than 350 mg/L. Daily additions at 2.5 mg/L for 28 days the same substrate did not inhibit activity. However, daily C...

An anaerobic culture capable of dechlorinating polychlorinated biphenyls was subcultured under strict anaerobic conditions on solid media containing sterilized river sediment. The dechlorination activity was transferred as a bacterial colony on a solid medium three times. After two transfers on solid medium, the culture was no longer methanogenic but still dechlorinated a mixture of tri- and te...

The API ZYM reactions of type species of Gram-negative anaerobes representative of those encountered in human infections and of 56 clinical isolates of such organisms, identified by conventional techniques, were investigated. The API ZYM test clearly distinguished between the different genera and species examined and appears to provide a simple, reliable method for the identification of this gr...

A rapid entry mechanism for an anaerobic glove box is described. The entry port is practical for entry or removal of one or two items and requires only seconds to operate. No deleterious effect on isolation or growth of anaerobes has been encountered since installation of the rapid entry port 3.5 years ago. Details for its construction are given.

We generated a high-quality draft genome sequence of Bacteroidales strain 6E, a strict anaerobe newly isolated from Japanese rice paddy field soil. The genome consists of 61 contigs, with a total size of 4,436,542 bp and mean G+C content of 45.4%. Annotation predicted 3,620 protein-coding and 54 RNA genes.

Steroid hormones are naturally produced by human and animals. Most important steroids are 17β-estradiol (E2), estrone (E1) (both estrogens), testosterone as well as the synthetic ethinylestradiol (EE2). All substances consist of four carbon rings what makes them stable in the environment. Steroid hormones are secreted in urine and mainly enter the environment by waste water treatment plant (WWT...
