BACKGROUND Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health problem complicated by drug resistance and human immunodeficiency virus that has dramatically increased active TB. Several medicinal plants are used traditionally to treat TB in Ethiopia and investigating these plants is required as plants are an alternative source for development of new anti-TB drugs. The purpose of this study was to investigate ...

in this work, we reported the synthesis and evaluation of antimycobacterial and antifungalactivity of a series of thiocarbohydrazone derivatives which are thiacetazone congeners. thetarget compounds were synthesized in superior yields by reacting thiocarbohydrazide withdifferent aromatic aldehydes and methyl ketones. compounds 8, 19 and 25 were found to bethe most potent derivatives, exhibiting...

OBJECTIVES Phenothiazines are a commercially available class of psychotropic drugs known to show antituberculosis activity. At clinically relevant bactericidal doses, however, the psychotropic drugs produce undesirable side effects in addition to their neuroleptic properties. This study aimed to evaluate rationally designed novel phenothiazines as antimycobacterial drug candidates. METHODS Re...

Infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and invasive mycoses, represent serious health problems. As a part of our long-term efforts to find new agents for the treatment of these diseases, a new series of pyrazine analogs of chalcones bearing an isopropyl group in position 5 of the pyrazine ring was prepared. The structures of the compounds were corroborated by IR and NMR spectroscopy and thei...

A series of fifteen new N-alkoxyphenylanilides of 3-hydroxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid was prepared and characterized. Primary in vitro screening of the synthesized compounds was performed against Staphylococcus aureus, three methicillin-resistant S. aureus strains, Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra and M. avium subsp. paratuberculosis. Some of the tested compounds showed antibacterial and ant...

An extract of an unidentified green filamentous fungus isolated as an endophyte of the Canadian medicinal plant Geum macrophyllum exhibited significant antimycobacterial activity and a distinct 1H NMR profile. Bioassay guided fractionation indicated that the natural product phomopsolide A (1) was responsible for the distinguishing characteristics of the extract.

Two new sulfur-containing compounds, trans-3-methylsulfonyl-2-propenol (1) and trans-3-methylsulfinyl-2-propenol (2) were isolated together with trans-3-methylthioacrylamide (3), entadamide A (4) and entadamide C (5) from the leaves of Clinacanthus siamensis. The structures were established on the basis of the spectroscopic data. The compounds were tested for antimalarial and antimycobacterial ...
