A natural generalization of graph colouring involves taking colours from a metric space and insisting that the endpoints of an edge receive colours separated by a minimum distance dictated by properties of the edge. In the q-backbone colouring problem, these minimum distances are either q or 1, depending on whether or not the edge is in the backbone. In this paper we consider the list version o...
A herd of bison has just made an extraordinary migration. The distance these animals travelled was huge—nearly 5,000 miles—and their means of transport was highly unorthodox: they fl ew. The cargo plane took some thirty of these hulking mammals from Elk Island National Park of Canada across Alaskan airspace, over the Bering Strait, and into the Republic of Yakutia. Their ultimate destination: t...
This paper addresses the problem of distributed connectivity constrained motion coordination of multiple autonomous mobile agents. Different from traditional flat network structure which lacks flexibility and scalability when performing complex spatially distributed tasks, a novel distributed framework for construction of backbone-based hierarchical communication networks is proposed. Firstly, ...
A method is suggested to deduce the anisotropy in neutral pions by measuring the azimuthal anisotropy of photons in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions. The ratio of the estimated anisotropy in photons to the anisotropy in neutral pions is seen to scale with a parameter which depends on photon multiplicity and anisotropy. This parameter can be determined from experimental data.
The presentation is about the design of the backbone of the Estonian governmental information systems X-Road. The system is already ten years old and has proven to be useful and reliable. The presentation describes the vision of the system, the requirements analysis process and the technical design decisions. The vision was to create a web-services based unified access to all governmental regis...
Given the wide range of services to be offered by future optical backbone networks, network survivability becomes a quintessential aspect of network design. The survivability schemes of such networking infrastructures can be realized in two basic forms, viz., restoration-based and protection-based schemes or an appropriate combination of both. This article provides a brief overview of survivabl...
The Cambridge Backbone Ring (CBR) is a collaborative project between Olivetti Research Limited and the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory. The project has designed and built an experimental ring communication network for integrated computer data, voice and real-time video applications. The network is currently aimed as a backbone facility for interconnecting groups of CFR (Cambridge Fa...
We found that nitrogen and hydrogen directly react at room temperature and pressures of ~35 GPa forming chains of single-bonded nitrogen atom with the rest of the bonds terminated with hydrogen atoms - as identified by IR absorption, Raman, X-ray diffraction experiments and theoretical calculations. At releasing pressures below ~10 GPa, the product transforms into hydrazine. Our findings might ...
