This paper examines existing bidirectional ray tracing algorithms and the bottlenecks and possible benefits compared to backward tracing methods. The results of the implementation of one algorithm is provided. The article addresses the problems in the implementation of this a system including accurate probability calculation and efficient ray generation.

Kimura proposed a solution for the time-dependent probability of fixation, or loss, of a gene under selection. Example calculations suggest the formulas are prone to numerical inaccuracies. An alternative solution is proposed; the correctness of the solution is confirmed by numerically solving the Kolmogorov backward equation and by simulation.

Multivariate Poisson processes have many important applications in Insurance, Finance, and many other areas of Applied Probability. In this paper we study the backward simulation approach to modelling multivariate Poisson processes and analyze the connection to the extreme measures describing the joint distribution of the processes at the terminal simulation time.
