Yeast cells undergo periodic fluctuations in density during the cell division cycle such that a minimum in density occurs at the time of cell separation whereas a maximum occurs between the time of deoxyribonucleic acid replication and nuclear division. Synchronous cultures can be selected from asynchronously growing cell cultures by withdrawing the cells of least or greatest density after band...

The use of chromosome in situ suppression hybridisation with whole chromosome libraries has previously been reported by various research laboratories to be an effective method of identifying specific human chromosomal material. As a clinical cytogenetic service laboratory we have used the technique as a complement to diagnosis by classical chromosome banding. In three examples of structural rea...

The family Phyllostomidae belongs to the most abundant and diverse group of bats in the Neotropics with more morphological traits variation at the family level than any other group within mammals. In this work, we present data of chromosome banding (G, C and Ag-NOR) and Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) for representatives of Rhinophylla pumilio Peters, 1865 collected in four states of ...

It is perhaps surprising to those not intimately involved in the field of genetics to realizethat the total number ofhuman chromosomes was not clearly establi shed until 1956. However, over the past 43 years, cytogenetics has undergone a spectacular evolution involving both cytological and molecular techniques. A major breakthrough was the development in 1970 of the first chromosomal banding te...

Abdominal aortic banding induces upregulation of the angiotensin II (Ang II) type-2 (AT2) receptor, thereby decreasing the contractile response to Ang II in the thoracic aorta of the rat. The aim of this study was to use a mouse model to clarify the mechanisms by which the banding elicits upregulation of the aortic AT2 receptor and the subsequent attenuation of Ang II responsiveness. Concomitan...

-1. The phosphoglycerate kinase electrophoretic banding patterns of several Drosophila species were studied. 2. Three banding types were noted: A type with a slowly migrating band of activity, a type with a faster migrating band of activity, and a type with an intermediate migrating band. 3. These banding types appeared to be species specific and may be useful in evolutionary or taxonomical stu...

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB) was done for the first time in Belgium in 1993. Gastric torsion after band slippage is extremely rare. Literature review of gastric banding and complications in pregnancy did not reveal any case of gastric torsion. Hence, we report this rare case of gastric torsion in a pregnant lady following gastric banding.

Background In the current surgical era PA banding is not indicated as palliation or stage procedure for patients with large VSD and severe PAH. We have reviewed our institutions experience in patients undergoing VSD repair with previously failed PA banding. Failure of PA banding was defined as pulmonary to aortic systolic pressure ratio (PASPR) > 0.8 in period of at least 6 months after palliat...
