This paper presents a stochastic model of the lymphocyte recruitment in inflammed brain microvessels. The framework used is based on stochastic process algebras for mobile systems. The automatic tool used in the simulation is the BioSpi. We compare our approach with classical hydrodinamical specifications.

The present study was conducted to clarify whether treatment with L-serine can improve the brain repair and neurorestoration of rats after permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO). After pMCAO, the neurological functions, brain lesion volume, and cortical injury were determined. GDNF, NGF, NCAM L1, tenascin-C, and Nogo-A levels were measured. Proliferation and differentiation of the n...

BACKGROUND Nicotine can pass through placental blood barrier and accumulate in the developing organs of fetus. Also, entering the breast milk, nicotine can have an effect on the neonates. Investigations have showed that collagen IV is one of the most important micro vessels basement membrane components. OBJECTIVE In this study, the effect of maternal nicotine exposure in pre and postnatal per...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) can induce matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 activities and focal angiogenesis. We hypothesized that VEGF activation of cerebral MMP-9 would require nitric oxide participation. METHODS We compared the in vivo effects of: (1) N(G)-monomethyl-l-arginine, a nonspecific nitric oxide synthase inhibitor; (2) L-N(6)-(1-iminoethyl)lysine...

The blood-brain barrier (BBB) maintains the individuality of brain fluid, while allowing it to selectively import nutrients and process toxic products. Its major constituent is a single layer of continuous, nonfenestrated endothelium lining the microvessels, whose unique features account in large part for the integrity of the barrier. The endothelial cell monolayer is the major determinant, but...

Infants born before 29 weeks gestation incur a major risk of preterm encephalopathy and subependymal/intracerebral/intraventricular haemorrhage. In mice, an ontogenic window of haemorrhage risk was recorded up to 5 days after birth in serpine1 knock-out animals. Using proteome and transcriptome approaches in mouse forebrain microvessels, we previously described the remodelling of extracellular ...

Hypercapnia is regularly observed in chronic lung disease, such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants. Hypercapnia results in increased nitric oxide synthase activity and in vitro formation of nitrates. Neural vasculature of the immature subject is particularly sensitive to nitrative stress. We investigated whether exposure to clinically relevant sustained high CO(2) causes microvasc...
