In this paper, we present the concept and design of a time-to-voltage converter (TVC), and demonstrate its application to on-chip phase-locked loop (PLL) jitter measurement. The TVC operates in an analog, continuous mode without using a sampling clock. It compares the signal under measurement with a reference signal by charging and discharging a capacitor. First, the low-frequency reference sig...
Recently the reduction of power consumption is one of the most important issues in the design of LSI circuits. Circuit designers quite commonly evaluate the power consumption on the basis of the “fact” that when we charge a capacitor C by a voltage source E or when we discharge the capacitor with the voltage E we consume the energy of 12CE . This “fact” can be verified typically for the simple ...
A method and system are proposed for a transient-free commutation of a resonant-mode array of inductors. A single capacitor is used to tune the entire array, and triacs are used to commutate the inductors. To avoid the transients, the tuning capacitor is electrically locked when it stores the whole energy of the excited circuit. This prevents the capacitor from discharge during the fast, 0.1 ms...
Switched-capacitor DC-DC converters are useful alternatives to inductor-based converters in many lowpower and medium-power applications. This work develops a straightforward analysis method to determine a switched-capacitor converter’s output impedance (a measure of performance and power loss). This resistive impedance is a function of frequency and has two asymptotic limits, one corresponding ...
Characterization was performed on 60 nm +/3 nm films of atomic layer deposition (ALD) hafnium dioxide (HfO2) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3), and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) silicon nitride (Si3N4) as MIM capacitor dielectric for GaAs HBT technology. The capacitance density of MIM capacitor with ALD HfO2 (2.73 fF/m 2 ) and Al2O3 (1.55 fF/m 2 ) is significantly higher than tha...
Air bubbles have been detected in human circulation of end-stage renal disease patients who are treated by hemodialysis. The consequence of air embolism, air bubbles, is under recognized and usually overlooked in daily practice. This paper shows results of a capacitor based detection method that capable of detecting the presence of air bubbles in the blood stream in different frequencies. The m...
This paper undertakes the problem of loss reduction in a radial distribution System. The objective is to determine the suitable size and location of the capacitors to be placed on a radial distribution system. The objective function is to increase of saving due to reduction of energy losses thereby taking into consideration cost of capacitor. In this part, load flow solution for the radial feed...
-This paper presents and compares a set of experimental results on the measurement of power and energy consumed using an ammeter and a non-conventional capacitor-based method. A standard cell CMOS multiplier is utilized as a circuit under test. The paper shows, as main result, that the capacitor-based method allows the designer to obtain information unreachable with conventional ammeter measure...

This paper develops an analytical model for a standard topology, fully differential, switched capacitor amplifier; including the base amplifier offset voltage and common mode range, and capacitor mismatch effects. The amplifier is designed in a 0.6 μm process and the analytical model accuracy is compared with the simulation results.
