carbapenemase producing bacteria frequently possess resistance mechanisms to a wide-range of antibacterial agents, and are associated with high mortality and morbidity rates. some enzymes like extended-spectrum β-lactamase (esbl), new delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1 (ndm-1), klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (kpc), and oxa-producing enterobacteriaceae are very important in frequently isolated ...

Exposure to quinolones is associated with carbapenem resistance among colistin-susceptible Acinetobacter baumannii blood isolate...
Klebsiella pneumoniae is a nosocomial pathogen of emerging importance and displays resistance to broad-spectrum antibiotics, such as carbapenems. Here, we report the genome sequences of five clinical K. pneumoniae isolates, four of which are carbapenem resistant. Carbapenem resistance is conferred by hydrolyzing class A β-lactamases found adjacent to transposases.
Carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, and Acinetobacter baumannii were isolated from a single patient, each producing different carbapenemases (NDM-1, KPC-2, IMP, and OXA-23, respectively). The NDM-1-producing E. coli strain was preceded by a clonally related carbapenem-susceptible strain a month earlier, suggesting in vivo acquisition of blaNDM-1.
Serratia fonticola UTAD54 is an environmental isolate that is resistant to carbapenems due to the presence of a class A carbapenemase and a metallo-β-lactamase that are unique to this strain. Its draft genome sequence was obtained to clarify the molecular basis of its carbapenem resistance and identify the genomic context of its carbapenem resistance determinants.
Breaches in infection control practices during last spring’s coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) surge likely contributed to a 34-patient outbreak of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) infections at New Jersey hospital.
BACKGROUND Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii has emerged as an important cause of infection in burn patients. This study aimed to characterize the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern, determine the prevalence of oxacillinase and metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) genes, and type the A. baumannii isolates obtained from burn patients. METHODS During a 1-year period, a total of 40 nondupli...
The carbapenem-resistant Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Indiana strain C629 was isolated from a chicken carcass collected from a slaughterhouse in Qingdao, China. The complete genome sequence of C629 contains a circular 4,791,723-bp chromosome and a circular 210,106-bp plasmid. Genes involved in carbapenem resistance of this bacterium were identified by whole-genome analysis.
Performance of the CHROMagar mSuperCARBA media was assessed in both well-characterized carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (n=52) and routine surveillance rectal swab specimens (n=211). Limit of detection ranged between 101 and 102CFU/mL except for OXA-48 producers with low-carbapenem MICs (106CFU/mL). High sensitivity (100%) and specificity (100%) were obtained with rectal swabs.
