Recent psychophysical studies have been interpreted to indicate that the perception of motion temporally either lags or is synchronous with the perception of color. These results appear to be at odds with neurophysiological data, which show that the average response-onset latency is shorter in the cortical areas responsible for motion (e.g., MT and MST) than for color processing (e.g., V4). The...

PURPOSE To investigate color perception and contrast sensitivity with and without additional glare in pseudophakic patients with a conventional intraocular lens (IOL) in one eye and a blue light-filtering IOL in the fellow eye. METHODS Twenty-three bilaterally pseudophakic patients with a conventional IOL (AcrySof SA60AT) and a blue light-filtering IOL (AcrySof Natural SN60AT) were tested for...

A recent study showed that color synesthetes have increased color sensitivity but impaired motion perception. This is exciting because little research has examined how synesthesia affects basic perceptual processes outside the context of synesthetic experiences. The results suggest that synesthesia broadly impacts perception with greater neural implications than previously considered.

BACKGROUND Individuals with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are reported to manifest visual problems (including ophthalmological and color perception, particularly for blue-yellow stimuli), but findings are inconsistent. Accordingly, this study investigated visual function and color perception in adolescents with ADHD using color Visual Evoked Potentials (cVEP), which provides a...

PURPOSE To develop and assess new color vision tests to be used in evaluating faulty color recognition. METHODS We developed new color vision tests to evaluate faulty color recognition. The two types of color vision tests, designed to assess faulty color recognition in color vision deficiencies, are based on principles that are different from those of the conventional color vision tests. In t...

The focus of this project was to modify the image feature extraction subsystem of the ImageRover system[11]. The subsystem was extended to use color and texture measures which more closely correspond to the human perception. The feature implemented for color is the color histogram in L u v color space. The texture measure implemented is 2D Wold decomposition, which incorporates the three most i...

We present a “separation” algorithm for achieving color constancy and theorems concerning its accuracy. The algorithm requires extra information from the optical system, over and above the usual three values mapping human cone responses. However, with this additional information-specifically, a sampling across the visible range of the reflected, color-signal spectrum impinging on the optical se...

OBJECTIVE To examine the relationship between measures of visual dysfunction and driving performance in persons with multiple sclerosis (MS). DESIGN Between-group comparison. SETTING All data were collected in an outpatient research setting. PARTICIPANTS Persons (N=66) with MS of the relapsing remitting type (26 self-reporting visual difficulties; 40 self-reporting no visual difficulties)...

How should we understand the relationship between conscious perception and action? Does an appeal to action have any place in an account of color experience? This essay aims to shed light on the first question by giving a positive response to the second. I consider two types of enactive approach to perceptual consciousness, and two types of account of color perception. Each approach to color pe...

Entitativity perception refers to the perception of a collection of individuals as a group. The authors propose 2 perceptual-inferential bases of entitativity perception. First, perceivers would expect a collection of individuals with similar physical traits to possess common psychological traits. Second, perceivers watching a group of individuals engage in concerted behavior would infer that t...
