objective: in all ceramic fixed partial dentures the connector area is a common fracture location. the survival time of three-unit fixed partial dentures may be improved by altering the connector design in regions of maximum tension. the purpose of this study was to determine the effect of buccolingual increase of the connector width on the stress distribution in posterior fixed partial denture...

background: silicon hydrogel bandage contact lenses are used to enhance epithelial healing, control surface-generated pain, and prevent epithelial erosions after refractive surgery. considering the importance of faster reepithelialization in preventing complications of photorefractive keratectomy (prk) and the fact that the features and specifications of these commercially-available lenses are ...

the effect of geometry and material of the micro/nano particle on contact mechanic for manipulation was studied in this work based on atomic force microscopy. hertz contact model simulation for eph biological micro particle with spherical, cylindrical, and circular crowned roller shape was used to investigate the effect of geometry on contact simulation process in manipulation. then, to validat...

This paper 1 presents a new approach to detect and localise contact between concave deformable polyhedra. In this case there are many contact points between two polyhedra, the proposed algorithm detect and localise the contact in linear time O(n). It returns also the direction of this contact and the value of the maximum inter-penetration between the two convex-hulls of these two polyhedra.

This paper investigates the problem of " formclosure" for three-fingered grasps of polygonal objects under various combinations of contact models at the contact points. We show that equilibrium can be maintained even when some of the contacts between the fingers and the grasped object are frictionless and tangential contact forces do not exist. Feasible regions to place the fingers on and to sa...

It has been shown that when subjects can predict object properties [e.g., weight or center of mass (CM)], fingertip forces are appropriately scaled before the object is lifted, i.e., before somatosensory feedback can be processed. However, it is not known whether subjects, in addition to these anticipatory force mechanisms, exploit the ability to choose where digits can be placed to facilitate ...

AS MORPHOLOGY PLAYS A RELEVANT ROLE IN SOLID/SOLID CATALYSIS, WHERE THE NUMBER OF CONTACT POINTS IS A CRITICAL FEATURE IN THIS KIND OF REACTION, THREE DIFFERENT CERIA MORPHOLOGIES HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED IN THIS WORK AS SOOT OXIDATION CATALYSTS: ceria nanofibers, which can become organized as a catalytic network inside diesel particulate filter channels and thus trap soot particles at several co...

in this paper, using the best proximity theorems for an extensionof brosowski's theorem. we obtain other results on farthest points. finally, wede ne the concept of e- farthest points. we shall prove interesting relationshipbetween the -best approximation and the e-farthest points in normed linearspaces (x; ||.||). if z in w is a e-farthest point from an x in x, then z is also a-best ...

To avoid collisions, mobile robots need a measure for assessing the proximity of obstacles. A measure that is well suited to this purpose is provided by the time-to-contact. In this paper, a novel method for estimating the time-to-contact is presented. The method is based on the assumption that the robot is moving on a locally planar ground, parts of which are visible in the acquired images. Us...
