An excited two-atom system can decay via different competing relaxation processes. If the excess energy is sufficiently high may not only relax spontaneous emission but also undergo interatomic Coulombic (ICD) or even Auger decay. We provide analytical expressions for rates by including them into same quantum optical framework on basis of macroscopic electrodynamics. By comparing in free space ...

Understanding how fingers slip on surfaces is essential for elucidating the mechanisms of haptic perception. This paper describes an investigation of the relationship between occlusion and the non-Coulombic slip of the finger pad, which results in the frictional force being a power law function of the normal load, with an index ; Coulombic slip corresponds to = 1. For smooth impermeable surface...

Dendrite growth and low coulombic efficiency are two major factors that limit the utilization of Li metal electrodes in future generations of high-energy-density rechargeable batteries. This article reports the first study on metal-organic framework (MOF) materials for boosting the electrochemical performance of Li metal electrodes and demonstrates the power of molecular-structure functionaliza...

The possibility of observation of supernarrow dibaryons, decay of which into two nucleons forbidden by the Pauli principle, produced in processes of charged pion photoproduction by polarized photons from the deuteron is analyzed. It is shown that the expectable dibaryon yield may exceed the background by a factor of 10–100. The possibility of existence of multi-quark states is predicted by QCD ...

Dissociation, fragmentation, and fissioning processes underly physical and chemical phenomena in a variety of finite-size systems, characterized by a wide spectrum of energy scales, nature of interactions, and characteristic spatial and temporal scales. These include nuclear fission [1,2], unimolecular decay and reactions in atoms and molecules [3], and more recently dissociation and fragmentat...

We report the occurrence of interatomic Coulombic decay (ICD) in mixed NeKr clusters. A well-defined feature ranging from 9 to 12 eV in kinetic energy is observed in coincidence with the Ne 2s photoelectrons. It derives from an ICD process, in which an initial Ne 2s vacancy is filled by a Ne 2p electron and an electron is emitted from a 4p level on a neighboring Kr atom. We have studied the dep...
