We discuss the fate of initial states of the cat type for the damped harmonic oscillator, mostly employing a linear version of the stochastic Schrödinger equation. We also comment on how such cat states might be prepared and on the relation of single realizations of the noise to single runs of experiments. Typeset using REVTEX 1

The nonequilibrium dynamics of a small quantum system coupled to a dissipative environment is studied. We show that (i) the oscillatory dynamics close to a coherent-to-incoherent transition is significantly different from the one of the classical damped harmonic oscillator and that (ii) non-Markovian memory plays a prominent role in the time evolution after a quantum quench.

The main aim of the paper is to present the analytical solution of the Belavkin quantum filtering equation for damped harmonic oscillator being initially in the squeezed coherent state for diffusion observation with complex white noise. The comparison of the a priori and a posteriori mean value of the optical quadrature operators and the photon number operator is given.

Barium Strontium Titanate (BST) varactors utilized in a VCO demonstrate unique tuning characteristics compared to junction varactors. A 2.7 GHz microstrip line VCO operates in a tracking phaselock loop configured as an X4 frequency multiplier. BST oscillator tuning and the effect on loop dynamics is observed by the intentional design of an under damped system. Oscillator noise correction and pe...

A glottal model based on physical constraints is proposed. The model describes the vocal fold as a simple oscillator, i.e. a damped mass-spring system. The oscillator is coupled with a nonlinear block, accounting for fold interaction with the airflow. The nonlinear block is modelled as a regressor-based functional with weights to be identified, and a pitch-synchronous identification procedure i...

We develop a consistent model of a quantum damped harmonic oscillator with arbitrary time-dependent frequency and damping coefficients within the framework of the Heisenberg–Langevin equations with two noncommuting delta-correlated noise operators justifying the choice of the “minimal noise” set of damping coefficients and correlation functions.

The Liouville equation of a two-level atom coupled to a degenerate bimodal lossy cavity is unitarily and exactly reduced to two uncoupled Liouville equations. The first one describes a dissipative Jaynes-Cummings model and the other one a damped harmonic oscillator. Advantages related to the reduction method are discussed. 42.50.-p, 42.50.Ct, 42.60.Da, 32.80.-t Typeset using REVTEX 2

We demonstrate a novel technique for direct measurement of the oscillation frequency in an optical-tweezers trap. The technique uses the phenomenon of parametric resonance in an oscillator when the stiffness of the trapping potential is modulated. The trapped particle is a strongly damped oscillator; hence, the signature of parametric resonance is not an increase in the amplitude but an increas...

We construct an explicit solution of the Cauchy initial value problem for the onedimensional Schrödinger equation with time-dependent Hamiltonian operator for the forced harmonic oscillator. The corresponding Green function (propagator) is derived with the help of the generalized Fourier transform and a relation with representations of the Heisenberg–Weyl group N (3) in a certain special case a...

Pineal melatonin release exhibits a circadian rhythm with a tight nocturnal pattern. Melatonin synthesis is regulated by the master circadian clock within the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and is also directly inhibited by light. The SCN is necessary for both circadian regulation and light inhibition of melatonin synthesis and thus it has been difficult to isolate these two regulat...
