We consider the problem of comparing predictive intervals for a future observation via their expected lengths at a given con ̄dence level. A higher order asymptotic theory is developed. This yields an explicit formula for expected length comparison and associated admissibility results. Illustrative examples are given.
We propose a bootstrap sampling method jackboot sampling This provides more accu rate inferences than ordinary bootstrap sampling better con dence interval coverage and less biased or unbiased standard errors The method is simple to implement We also prescribe a smoothing parameter for use in smoothed bootstrapping using or dinary kernel smoothing The e ect is similar to that of jackboot sampling
To compare several promising product designs manufacturers must measure their performance under multiple environmental conditions In many applications a product design is considered to be seriously awed if its performance is poor for any level of the environmental factor For example if a particular automobile battery design does not function well under temperature extremes then a manufacturer m...
This paper compares di erent procedures to compute con dence intervals for parameters and quantiles of the Weibull, lognormal, and similar log-location-scale distributions from Type I censored data that typically arise from life test experiments. The procedures can be classi ed into three groups. The rst group contains procedures based on the commonlyused normal approximation for the distributi...
This paper presents a novel approach to using con dence scores for word graph rescoring. For each word in the system's vocabulary, we computed the probability that the observation is correct given its acoustic score. Afterwards, we used these probabilities for rescoring word graphs outputted by the recognizer. We will present some implementation details as well as accuracy improvements obtained...
In this paper we construct a generic Picard-Vessiot extension for the general linear groups. In the case when the differential base field has finite transcen-dence degree over its field of constants we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for solving the inverse differential Galois problem for this groups via specialization from our generic extension.
From 21.03.04 to 26.03.04, the Dagstuhl Seminar 04131 Geometric Properties from Incomplete Data was held in the International Conference and Research Center (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl. During the seminar, several participants presented their current research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of seminar ...
We propose a con dence set for the subsets of parameters under partially identi ed models characterized by moment inequalities. The subvector inference is based on the speci cation testing of Guggenberger, Hahn, and Kim (2006) who discuss the dual characterization between the speci cation testing of the moment inequalities and the multi-dimensional one-sided tests. We exploit the idea that a sp...
This paper presents correct algorithms for answering the following two questions; (i) Does there exist a causal explanation con sistent with a set of background knowledge which explains all of the observed indepen dence facts in a sample? (ii) Given that there is such a causal explanation what are the causal relationships common to every such
The article deals with the unfolding race for military, technological, and political infl uence in space. Great powers have competed space since dawn of Space Age. Today we are once again faced possibility warfi ghting, but there more than two players game now civil infrastructure depends on ever before. Theoretical war threats often analysed through an assessment possible targets. And real-lif...
