Selective genotyping can increase power in quantitative trait association. One example of selective genotyping is two-tail extreme selection, but simple linear regression analysis gives a biased genetic effect estimate. Here, we present a simple correction for the bias.

For nearly a century, twin and adoption studies have yielded substantial estimates of heritability for cognitive abilities, although it has proved difficult for genomewide-association studies to identify the genetic variants that account for this heritability (i.e., the missing-heritability problem). However, a new approach, genomewide complex-trait analysis (GCTA), forgoes the identification o...

The use of DNA microarrays has revolutionized the manner in which mRNA populations are analyzed. One limitation of the current technology is that mRNAs are often purified on the basis of their 3' poly(A) ends, which can be extremely short or absent in some mRNAs. To circumvent this limitation, we have developed a procedure for the purification of eukaryotic mRNAs using a mutant version of the m...

Self-determination is the most important skill that programs must teach (Ward, 1996). Secondary educational and supported employment programs, which typically have not taught self-determination skills (Phelps & Hanley-Maxwell, 1997), must now infuse self-determination methods into their daily operations so that people with disabilities can learn these crucial skills (Browning, 1997; Halloran, 1...

The field of genetics has come to rely heavily on commercial genotyping arrays and accompanying annotations for insights into genotype-phenotype associations. However, in order to avoid errors and false leads, it is imperative that the annotation of SNP chromosomal positions is accurate and unambiguous. We report on genomic positional discrepancies of various SNP chips for human, cattle and mou...

amounts and several DNA sources. Variant DNA amounts ranging from 9 to 640 ng of DNA template from either blood or serum gave reproducible genotyping results. The latter indicates the high flexibility of the method and allows for the omission of DNA quantification before genotyping. We conclude that this assay is a valuable method that allows simple and rapid high-throughput genotyping in the c...

This paper analyzes collective bargaining using Spanish firm level data. Central to the analysis are the joint determination of wage and strike outcomes in a dynamic framework and the possibility of segregate wage equation for strike and non-strike outcomes. Conditional to strikes taking place, we confirm a negative relationship between strike duration and wage changes in a dynamic context. Fur...

This paper explores the reconstruction of object surfaces from viewed changes in surface texture patterns. Our approach differs from those in the past in that instead of simply producing local estimates of the surface orientation, our algorithm recovers complete surfaces. Past approaches (1, 16, 4, 9, 8, 111 only found the surface orientation locally and, therefore, did not take advantage of th...

In this study, the prevalence of Enterocytozoon bieneusi in China was investigated. Twelve genotypes of E. bieneusi were identified, of which 10 were novel genotypes. Further, 41.6% of the genotypes were found in both humans and animals. This is the first report of E. bieneusi in China.

The available techniques for directed gene manipulation in the mouse are unprecedented in any multicellular organism and make the mouse an invaluable tool for unraveling all aspects of mammalian biology. To realize fully the potential of these genetic tools requires that phenotypic analysis be efficient, rapid, and complete. Genetic chimeras and mosaics, in which mutant cells are mixed with wil...
