A three-year survey of kudzu foliage, seed, stems, and roots for associated phytophagous insects was conducted to establish basic information about the insect communities that kudzu harbors in China and to assess the abundance, diversity and damage caused by these insects. Diseases of kudzu were also surveyed in southern China. A total of 116 phytophagous insect species in 31 families and 5 ord...

Nowadays, due to drought and water shortage, use of unconventional waters, particularly sewage, has become usual in agriculture whereas they often contain heavy metals. The present study was employed to evaluate the effect of urban wastewater of Shahrekord on growth, yield and accumulation of heavy metals (lead and cadmium) in balm (Melissa officinalis) as a medicinal plant with five treatments...

Rhizophora apiculata Blume is very easy species to find and widely distributed in mangroves. This study was purposed determine the optimum salinity concentration for mangrove seedling growth as a reference when rehabilitating forests. The effect of on development R. roots carried out greenhouse, Universitas Sumatera Utara. used five levels 0%, 0.5%, 1.5%, 2%, 3% with 10 replications. Parameter ...

As a consequence of changing global rainfall patterns, frequent extreme droughts will significantly affect plant growth and ecosystem functions. Fine roots arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) both facilitate Chinese fir nutrient uptake. However, how the fine AMF is regulated for under drought conditions unclear. This study used precipitation reduction treatment (−50% throughfall) to seasonal eff...

Interactions between an isolate of dark septate endophytes (DSE) and roots of Dendrobium nobile Lindl. seedlings are reported in this paper. The isolate was obtained from orchid mycorrhizas on Dendrobium sp. in subtropical forest. The fungus formed typical orchid mycorrhiza in aseptic co-culture with D. nobile seedlings on modified Murashige-Skoog (MMS) medium. Anatomic observations of the infe...

Thin-walled roots restored using conventional cast metal post-cores are at risk of fracture. Placing a thick intermediate layer of resin-based composite (RBC), sandwiched between the root dentine and a small-diameter metal post or dowel, may improve the fracture resistance of such roots. In this initial laboratory study, two similar groups each of six decoronated maxillary central incisor teeth...

Root knot nematode is one of the important plant pathogens that causes damage to many crops, including greenhouse crops. Pepper is an agricultural crop which its cultivation has increased in recent years, especially in greenhouses. Most of the adopted management methods for this nematode have not met the required efficiency. In this study, reaction of some pepper cultivars (Elmina, Tuvana, Chal...

In the range 16 to 29 degrees C, increases in temperature caused large (two-to threefold) increases in growth velocity, growth strain rate, and biomass deposition rate in primary roots of maize, Zea mays L. Temperature had small effects on root diameter, fresh weight density, and dry weight density, and negligible effects on length of the growth zone and growth strain at particular positions.
