Wet-in-wet flow effect is a famous phenomenon in Chinese ink paintings. In this paper, we propose a new two-stage algorithm to synthesize this renowned effect. Given a reference image, in the first stage, we render the reference image using a new color ink diffusion synthesis algorithm. This physically-based algorithm explores a new and more sensitive Kubelka-Munk (SK-M) equation. As a result, ...

Diffuse interfaces appear with any Eulerian discontinuity capturing compressible flow solver. When dealing with multifluid and multimaterial computations, interfaces smearing results in serious difficulties to fulfil contact conditions, as spurious oscillations appear. To circumvent these difficulties, several approaches have been proposed. One of them relies on multiphase flow modelling of the...

In this paper, we present a new, physically based 3-terminal model for diffused and ion-implanted resistors. The model accounts for the effects of geometry, temperature, and bias, and includes parasitic p-n junction diodes. The junction depletion capacitances are distributed to model high-frequency behavior accurately.

A novel inverse halftoning method is proposed to restore a continuous tone image from a given half-tone image. A set theoretic formulation is used where three sets are defined using the prior information about the problem. A new space-domain projection is introduced assuming the halftoning is performed using error diffusion, and the error diffusion filter kernel is known. The space-domain, freq...

Recently it was discovered that non-Gaussian decoherence processes, such as phase-diffusion, can be counteracted by purification and distillation protocols that are solely built on Gaussian operations. Here, we make use of this experimentally highly accessible regime, and provide a detailed experimental and theoretical analysis of several strategies for purification/distillation protocols on ph...

How do people learn categories and what changes with development? The current study attempts to address these questions by focusing on the role of attention in the development of categorization. In Experiment 1, participants (adults, 7-year-olds, and 4-year-olds) were trained with novel categories consisting of deterministic and probabilistic features, and their categorization and memory for fe...

Diffused expectation maximisation is a novel algorithm for image segmentation. The method models an image as a finite mixture, where each mixture component corresponds to a region class and uses a maximum likelihood approach to estimate the parameters of each class, via the expectation maximisation algorithm, coupled with anisotropic diffusion on classes, in order to account for the spatial dep...
