Divalent metal ions promote hydrolysis of RNA backbones generating 5'OH and 2';3'P as cleavage products. In these reactions, the neighboring 2'OH act as the nucleophile. RNA catalyzed reactions also require divalent metal ions and a number of different metal ions function in RNA mediated cleavage of RNA. In one case, the LZV leadzyme, it was shown that this catalytic RNA requires lead for catal...

Metal oxides of the spinel family have shown great potential towards the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), but the fundamental OER mechanism of spinel oxides is still far from being completely understood, especially for the role of the metal ions. Owing to various coordinated sites of divalent/trivalent metals ions and surface conditions (morphology and defects), it is a great challenge to have ...

The inhibition by bacitracin of the enzymatic dephosphorylation of C(55)-isoprenyl pyrophosphate is abolished by the addition of chelating agents. If, however, the chelating agent is added after a preincubation of bacitracin with a divalent cation and the lipid substrate, then its addition has little effect, indicating that bacitracin, metal ion, and C(55)-isoprenyl pyrophosphate form a complex...

Strongly correlated electrostatics of DNA systems has drawn the interest of many groups, especially the condensation and overcharging of DNA by multivalent counterions. By adding counterions of different valencies and shapes, one can enhance or reduce DNA overcharging. In this paper, we focus on the effect of multivalent co-ions, specifically divalent co-ions such as SO[Formula: see text]. A co...

n-acetyl-b-d-glucosaminidase was purified by affinity and ionexchange chromatography. two major, a and b, and three minor intermediate forms were isolated and characterized. nag-a and nag-b were purified 440 and 1200 fold with final yields of 16 and 23 percent respectively. each activity was represented by a single protein band. after 70 min preincubation at 55°c a loss of70% activity of nag-a ...

A diverse set of guest molecules template the consistent formation of fifteen iso-structural layered structures containing a pyridine based tripodal ligand, divalent metal ions and anions. These materials have shown a remarkable ability to interconvert from Zn(II) to Cu(II), Cd(II) to Cu(II), Cu(II) to Cd(II) complexes in a SCSC (single crystal-to-single crystal) fashion.

Sialidase is shown to be localized in the lysosomes of rat liver and kidney. The pH optimum with sialyllactose as substrate is 4.4, and with glycoproteins is 4.0. The enzyme is not affected by many divalent metal ions, ethylenediaminetetraacetate, or fi-chloromercuribenzoate, and is active against many glycoproteins and gangliosides, indicating its possible role in their intracellular digestion.
